E65 has all in one. It is a business device, a smartphone and a slider.
Design
Unfortunately Nokia E65 falls into the class of things, which looks mediocre in photos. You look at photos from different angles, nothing catches attention. But in the meantime, here it is in front of me, in all its glory.
Of course, Nokia E65 is not the first smartphone-slider from Nokia. Focused on businessmen of different degrees E65 is simply obliged to be restrained – elegant, as well as provocatively – stylish. Silver display bezel, along with the brown color adds strictness, while the texture “under the leather” on the back cover and an angular profile brings notes to vintage. Alloy of style and technical perfection. For the first time taking out this smart phone somewhere in “Blue Hall” you will not have to blush.
Smart phones Series 60 of are slow but are surely moving from huge barrels 6600 to stylish N76.
Nokia E65 is difficult to consider in detail. Apart from a single fact, the individual elements do not represent anything special. Nevertheless, the phone not only looks good on the table, but also in hand. Furthermore, the ergonomics can be marked as “strong” five.
When you start to think, what the most attractive detail of Nokia E65 is, you understand a simple thing – the thickness (only 15.5 mm). At last smartphones get dimensions of normal phones. Weight is 115 grams may still seem more significant, but I declare with all responsibility – pockets do not bristle. And in other cases, 115 grams are even plus than minus.
Display
And again, starting a conversation about the display, we remember the recent phone. We measured by eye 16, 256, 4096 colors. Today no one will get surprised learning about 16 million colors at E65. In action QVGA-display (240×320 pixels) is perfect. Viewing angles, contrast, brightness, response time of the matrix – everything is at the highest level.
Perhaps the best display for such a phone is self-indulgence and a marketing pump connected to the purse of unsuspecting consumers. Screen copes with all tasks, from reading of small text up to viewing videos.
Keyboard
The best part of the slider is a mechanism of auto reason. Moreover, in the open position E65 continues to be elegant.
With regard to control, the engineers were not stingy. 10 keys are located below the display, not counting the navigation key. Here are two soft keys, “menu”, “C” and “receivers” as well as four keys typically found in communicators. These are “Contacts” “mute / unmute” button, “One Touch for conferencing” and programmable key “MyOwn”. As we can see a very specific set, which feet grow out of business or even a corporate entity of the device.
On the right end are situated the standard volume, text editing, and voice recorder buttons. Unfortunately the last two buttons are deeply recessed into the body and pushing them comfortably is possible only with a fingernail or a very thin finger.
Square Five-positioned navigation button is very easy to use and is located in the center button of input is beyond praise.
With specific regard to the numeric keypad, it is excellent both for a slider and a smartphone. It allows you to achieve high results in writing messages, notes, drawing up plans or sending e-mail.
In general, you simply do not have to dream of something. Even the jade-green light is just what we needed, expanding the already impeccable image.
Functions
When it comes to Series 60 3rd Edition talking about filling of a functional smartphone is even embarrassing. Everything that you need on the road, at work, on a business trip, you will easily find in E65. If you need anything more – thousands of programs and games are just waiting to be downloaded. I never understood the policy of companies that produce devices, without even simple games. On the one hand – the phone is for the business person on the other – business people are very fond of Solitaire or variations on this theme. And children are not averse to “play” with their father’s phone. Of course, the problem is not worth special attention, because any game to any taste can be downloaded on the internet, but it is a strange policy of artificial restrictions. And if it is not a toy, then the remaining applications are more than enough. Here you have mobile office (reading files, Word, Excel,etc), Adobe Reader LE 1.5, convenient Zip manager.
There is even a very interesting feature “Export Screen” like a projector. It is a convenient function for conferences and meetings. It has also a very funny feature when reading messages. Male or female voice reads the letters received by mail.
In other words, the phone has everything (calculator, converter, and “Voice Assistant”).
Multimedia
Once again we encounter the barricades built by the marketing department. It is not clear why the manufacturer has not placed radio E65 and put monaural headset in set, but the effect is exactly the opposite.
Confusion is the only feeling that arises when looking at the headset Nokia HS-5. You get more disappointed when connecting normal headphones (Pop-port) you realize that the “music player” is a very powerful tool for music lovers. You will also not find FM-radio.
In the section “Multimedia” can be found Flash-Player. Maybe it is again, for presentations, but it perfectly coped with cartoons Happy Tree Friends.
Thus, the basic multimedia set of E65 is very weak, but from a serious machine for much money I would like to get more diversity.
Business phones from Nokia have the best communication abilities. Let us simply list the available user profiles: infrared port, cable, Bluetooth 1.2, Wi-Fi (also known as WLAN, IEEE 802.11g and 802.11b), GPRS Multi-Slot Class 32, EDGE, WCDMA 2100. In other words, where ever you are you will always have to go on the Internet or to be connected with other devices.
In E65, Wi-Fi deserves a separate discussion.
The first thing that catches your eye, in the case of Wi-Fi is a perfectly organized work of the manager. For the purity of the experiment, the phone has been tested in parallel with the laptop (built-in WLAN-module). As expected, the antenna and the sensitivity of an order of magnitude E65 is weaker than notebook.
Summing up the communication abilities of E65, it is worth noting the highest diversity, reliability and convenience.
Camera
If phones like N90, N93, N95 camera are something serious, an advantage for which you can buy this device, the specifications of 2-megapixel camera in E65 is only insofar as indicated.
Functionally and structurally, the camera in the E65 resembles what we have already seen in N70. Maximum resolution of image is 1600×1200 pixels. During the actual shooting are available self-timer, photo series mode, night scene and white balance with a choice of color tone.
Maximum video resolution is 352×288 pixels, the ability to record on the whole free memory. It is, by the way, 50MB in the device and up to 2 GB via microSD card (not included).
Replacement implemented by “hot” scheme. Slot is located under the rear lid. Why the manufacturer did not put E65 memory card in a set remains a mystery. Apparently, business people don’t need memory cards.
Conclusion
E65 is available in brown and bright red colors. Fire coloring of this know-how for Nokia is in corporate business segment. Let’s see how white-collar workers perceive such expression.
If we sum up the above, it turns out that E65 looks good, has a first-class ergonomics and functional wealth S60. Thus at every step there are strange conventions and constraints such as lack of radio and memory card in the kit. In this case we are not talking about the cloying and viscosity. Perhaps when E65 will be cheaper, it is worth to have a close look in its direction.
