Several years ago the line of phones from Nokia under the short name N series, now are firmly consolidated in the minds of consumers as a line of innovative products and associated with advanced solutions in the field of mobile telephones. This stereotype is not far from the truth; today devices of N series are at the forefront of the Finnish company. In addition this new model is an extension of the popular N73; it carries a blast of estrogen for fans of Symbians, the full name of which is “Symbian OS v9.3, S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 2”. N78 mobile phone was first announced more than a year ago at the 3GSM Congress in Barcelona.
Design and Keyboard
To tell the truth, the design of Nseries phones is never considered to be attractive. This primarily relates to its size and weight. In the case of Nokia N78 the sizes are 113×49x15.1 mm and 102 grams of plastic.

If smartphones and communicators were bought taking into account the design the industry would have waited for imminent collapse. Good ergonomics – this is the word, when you look at Nokia N78. The telephone (all the same 78 can also call and not just copy the function CPC) is excellent in the hand, allowing you to quickly handle all the functions available, the control keys are where they should be.
The keyboard of Nokia N78 is not terrible as it might seem at the first signt. Four strips of the numeric keys are working effectively and efficiently.
It is hard to believe, but each line has three points of operation, which corresponds to 12 characters. The mechanism is not wrong, fingers do not slide off, typing is very convenient. Playing N-Gage and Java-games is extremely convenient.

The most uncomplimentary reviews of the case with Nokia N78 gets the navigation unit. Mechanical buttons mounted in the front panel have a small move, but it is a decent area of offset presses.
The right context key and “off” (vertically oriented) are too close to each other, which often leads to undesirable consequences.
The engineers have not been able to resist yet and Nokia N78 is equipped with sensors. This is a so-called “wheel Navi”, located within the navigation keys. In standby mode, it is pulsing white (fairly decent lightening in a dark room). Call me romantic, but it is associated with palpitations. In addition, the pulsation is transmitted important information like missed calls or unread messages. Needless “wheel Navi” allows circular motion by a finger to move through menu items (especially look cool in the multimedia menu). After the training, and with sufficient skill, this type of navigation on the menu will be able to add colors to the daily pressing of buttons. Nevertheless, the function at this stage of implementation is useless, but quite interesting in the future, curious to watch its development.

Additional keys are represented by three buttons – quick access to the camera (Focus / descent at the time of shooting), swing of the sound and power button.
Display
We can say that N78 becomes the standard for the Nseries phone. It is distinguished by modern features and high consumer possible. In other words, the 2.4-inch screen displays up to 16 million colors (24 bit), has a QVGA resolution (240×320 points).
Integrated sensor illumination saves battery charge, controlling the backlight keyboard and display brightness.

With high-quality screen, the phone becomes usable for watching video or surfing in the Internet, not to mention the other more simple tasks (shown up to 8 lines of text and 3 service lines).
Menu and Functions
When Nokia N95, in every sense is a very interesting phone. For example N78 can be safely described as a worthy continuation of ideas set out in N95.
This is not just a cosmetic upgrade of S60, it is a serious improvement, and in some cases almost complete processing of the functions of the platform. Redesigned interface (the labels on the main screen can be hidden, and placed vertically or horizontally, the contact picture is displayed on the entire screen during incoming and outgoing calls, move the animation in the menu and so on), the multimedia menu, phonebook, messages, calendar, and so furthermore.

Photo and video galleries
The new version of the operating system has replaced the conventional gallery of “Photos”, it is more convenient to work with stored images in memory.
Photos are sorted by month, album.
With the help of new applications working with the photos is not only easier but also faster. Rotary menu allows you to view more photos and easier navigation.

GPS-navigation
Installed Nokia Maps 2.0 application supports FP1, but in the second version it is installed by default. With regard to “satellite” module, it is a familiar system of A-GPS (Assisted Global Positioning System), allowing work to begin on the “cold” startup (initial connection to the satellites) in just 3-4 minutes. Nokia Maps are divided into two versions – free and paid. The first has a great opportunity, but voice commands are available only in full version.
From a technical point of view there is no criticism to integrated GPS (quite quickly connects to a large number of satellites).
In general, the navigational capabilities of N78 have pleasant experiences, the program interface is simple and easy to use.

Communication opportunities
For communication with the outside world Nokia N78 is equipped with Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR (with support for Stereo Audio or AD2P), plug Micro USB (USB 2.0 High-Speed), WLAN adapter 802.11b / g. Internet access is carried out through HSDPA, WCDMA, EGPRS (EDGE), GPRS, HSCSD, CSD. Today it is the most complete set of communication capabilities. It’s also worth noting the 3.5 mm input for headphones and AV-out. Well, this is for music fans.
Wizard Wi-Fi networks is capable of playing in the background to monitor the available networks. Before the network goes to the list of available, the phone checks for the opportunity to work with it, that saves the nerve cells.

Music
Musical ability of N78 has collected everything that is available only in the market of mobile phones. All of them are collected in the corresponding menu. One of the interesting features is FM-transmitter.
The other feature is a music player that supports a bunch of formats. There is a built-in FM-Radio (Visual Radio), Internet radio (using Wi-Fi), podcasting, and music shop.
“Podcasting” allows you to view and add the tape (also available from the player), to organize the automatic downloading of new revenue.
The music player is not very different in quality and sound, it is comparable to other products. In the music menu, it is possible to choose the classification of the songs (the album, singer, and so on).

Camera
N78’s camera can be described as a logical continuation of the module in Nokia N73. This primarily relates to increased sensitivity – F2.8/4.6 against F2.8/5.6 in N73.
A small, but quite a progressive step forward, in connection with optics from Carl Zeiss improves the quality of photos. Module itself, in terms of numbers, the adequacy of standards for such devices: 3.2-megapixel CMOS-matrix with autofocus, the minimum focal length of 10 cm.
Shooting modes available in the Print 3M – Large (2048×1536), Print 2M – Large (1600×1200), Print / e-mail 0.8M – Small (1024×768), Multimedia message 0.3M (640×480), the size of files ranging from 1MB up to 100K, respectively . Supported formats are JPEG / Exif.

Conclusion
Battery BL-6F of N78 with a capacity of 1200 mA.h allows you to use the Internet (2 hours), GPS (3 hours) and additional features and a small (up to 30 minutes) talk time. In my opinion, this is a serious indication for the phone of this class. A more sparing regime allows N78 battery discharged in 2-3 days.
As a result, N78 can be called a great gift to all fans of serious technology. Smartphone turned out to be good, but should weigh their requirements, and if many of the functions of the new model are ultimately behind, it makes sense to think about other phones of Nseries.
