Design of the phone is quite pleasant, quality of production is good, functionality is well. Of course, there are shortcomings, but we can’t do without them. What is it? This is the new Samsung L700, lighter version of the stylish monoblock Samsung U800 Soul.
Design
The novelty looks more expensive than its price is. Of course, the mobile phone for this price will never reach Vertu or Nokia 8800 Sapphire Arte even outwardly, but the manufacturer might try to brighten up its poor filling. As a result, the winner remains.
Samsung L700 is very different from its “parent”, but there are similarities – for example, the metal back cover. At first sight it seems to be quite strong, but because of the lack of a special cover it quickly covers with scratch-cobweb.
The size of the device is normal for modern monoblocks. Samsung L700 safely and comfortably fits in the palm; the weight of the phone is moderate and the width is less than 1.5 cm.
As a result, the phone can be easily carried even in light summer clothes, a bag is not required.
The plastic is of high quality, more resilient to external shocks. Tracings on the perimeter of the front panel are also made from metal – a pleasant trifle.
Keyboard and display
Buttons differ in size and are visually separated from the dialing buttons (keypad is implemented on different plates). In addition, the use of different plastic texture, liven up the metallic gray.
There is not a single claim concerning the control. Everything is convenient, decent size buttons, almost no errors occur. The only drawback is that the 4-position navigation button is not highlighted. The mobile phone is uncomfortable to use in the dark.
2-inch diagonal display has low-resolution of 176 x 220 (it is quite old). The picture quality is not high enough, for example, compared to Samsung U800. Under the sun we have seen a normal situation – images fade away, but the symbol is still visible.
Menu
Main menu can be presented in a grid of 12 icons or a list of folders on the screen. As usual, there is a convenient support to pop in the menu, which you can disable, if it does not seem to be necessary.
We won’t write about Samsung L700’s navigation as it has not been changed compared with previous models.
By the way you can not reassign the right and the left context buttons because of the lack of such a possibility. Therefore, the left button sends the owner to the folder in the service of SMS-messages, right – starts WAP-browser.
Camera
Now the demand for mobile phone camera is very low. Now many people want to get really good shots. The novelty is equipped with 2-MP camera, which does not make any impression.
The camera in L700 is worse than in Samsung U800 Soul and Samsung U900 Soul, it corresponds to the camera in Samsung F400 or Samsung D780. With a simple matrix of the receiver expect something good is simply impossible. The picture quality is really quite mediocre. The main problem is the low image sharpness, lack of contrast, an incorrect transfer of colors on the mixed plots.
To control shooting is very convenient. There aren’t any additional functions only three color effects, frames, timer, four filters, and several shooting modes.
Player and radio
As L700 does not belong to the music series, the phone simply can not have a 3.5-mm jack for connecting headphones and a separate processor for audio processing. To connect the headphones you need to use the adapter.
The phone has all the typical music applications for the latest models of Samsung – support for displaying the album covers, you can rate songs on a 5-point scale. In our non-profit version of the phone we couldn’t change the skins, there were not equalizers, and there were no other sound effects.
You can sort the contents of the gallery by album, artist, tracks, genres, composers. You can see the most Playable tracks, as well as songs which were played recently.
The player runs in the background, the phone displays the name of song and artist name. Sound quality is surprisingly turned out good and pleasant, the volume was sufficient to busy streets and even subway. Speaking just about the sound quality it is silly to compare L700 with musical series of Nokia devices, Walkman from Sony Ericsson or its own brainchild Samsung i450.
Radio has the support of RDS, it catches signals very good, it is better than some other modern phones. Thus, auto search finds 30 stations with the strongest signal.
Unfortunately, the stations can not provide the name (rename), which of course is a drawback.
By the way, in a more prestigious model of U800 you can see the same thing.
Other Features
Sound is subject to six changeable profiles. It’s typical and ordinary. You can choose ready ringtones.
MP3 files reproduce excellent sound, in most cases, you want miss a call.
In section “application”, you can find a “reminder”, events planner, voice recorder (maximum length of a record 1 hour), calculator, world time, etc. Calendar is very pleasant to use. It views events which are classified into five groups, and logical control.
Another important feature of this phone is the “graphic file manager”. Content stored in the memory of the phone and on the memory card is displayed separately, images and photos presented in the form of icons, navigation is simple.
In order to monitor the memory you should go to another section (“memory settings”), located in the paragraph “preferences”. You can also find tools for its treatment.
In our sample, there were seven games.
L700’s battery lasts four days. With frequent use of the camera, short conversations, studying the menu it has “lost” one day.
The speaker volume is at a good level, the other person can hear your conversation even in noisy streets.
