Brand-new Samsung U800 Soul is to some extent Korean response to the popular, but not the most recent monoblock Nokia 6300. Previously, Nokia had a slim and attractive monoblock, but Samsung didn’t have one. Now there is not just a loan, but a functionally distinct and full apparatus, better than his ancestor.
Design
All those who held Samsung U800 Soul in their hands consider it a beautiful and stylish device. Interviewees drew attention to the high quality and excellent selection of materials. Indeed, the producer did not economize on plastic. Back lid and front panel are made of high quality metal. A special thin film made from thin metal protects the surface from scratches. Only a very powerful collision with something sharp and hard may leave traces on the surface.
The small thickness of Samsung U800 Soul makes it comfortable in your hand even during a long conversation, and its small dimensions will provide comfortable accommodation in almost any pocket. At the outboard ends of the mobile are placed connectors for memory cards, connectors of the chargers and headsets, as well as convenient swing of the volume.
Keyboard and display
The keyboard of Samsung U800 Soul is approximately the same as in the model U900, of course, with the exception of the navigation keys, replaced on the predecessor tachpad.
A shortcoming is that the button is not highlighted in the dark, which complicates our life a little bit. The display has a small size, a TFT-matrix of 320×240, which is more than enough for this monoblock.
Menu
The menu is almost the same as in the Samsung U900 Soul model, however, you can not submit a list to the new main menu, as in the predecessor, the user will see only a grid of 12 icons. All submenus are horizontal lists. They will remember your last location in the menu, i.e. those functions that you used last time. These menu items are highlighted. It is convenient and helps the user to save a little time.
In this model, you will not find a “rapid” menu. A few words about the interface design. The apparatus has three preset good and nice theme, however, the user can create his/her theme. Of course, you can choose the color and appearance of icons, fonts, etc.
Camera
There is built-in 3 MP camera, which makes the good shots in good light. There are no problems with sharpness, even in the absence of autofocus. The interface of the camera is useful, however, it was already well known from previous models of Samsung. There are several color effects and filters to select the white balance.
Player
MP3-player is very functional. You can sort music by artists, genres, albums, composers, last played and popular tracks. While listening to music a pretty picture or an album cover are displayed on the screen. Sound can be “patch up” with the help of eight equalizers. There is a new feature called Fade Out, when by the end of songs sound gradually fade. By the way, the sound of U800 is mind. With headphones the sound is lively and of high quality. The sound is deafening, but it is enough for most situations.
U800 does not have a standard 3.5 mm input for headphones, so you can understand, the phone is fine. FM-radio regularly carries out its function, receiving about 25 stations in the city center (in automatic mode). As before, the favorite radio station can be an alarm clock, you just need to connect the headset to the phone.
Other functions
The apparatus has 1 GB internal memory plus an external card up to 2 GB. Alarm can operate on certain days of the week, you can choose any ringtone mentioned plus FM-radio. There is a convenient file-manager, presented a list of files and icons. Files from the phone and cards are displayed together. To tell the truth, the content of the card sometimes can not be visible for unknown reasons.
Photo Editor allows to play tricks over the images in the presence of more than 10 of the elementary effects, the image is also susceptible to transformation, it is possible to superimpose text or emoticons. On average, the battery charge is enough for 2.5 days. The speed of the download file, 5 MB of Bluetooth is about 50 Kb/s, which for this phone can be considered sufficient.
Conclusions
Samsung U800 Soul is an extremely successful and from any point of view a reasonable mobile phone. It has a beautiful design, and high functionality, which is enough for most users. By the way the phone is quite affordable.
