Hum. What can I say about this rather unique company. Well, first of all this company is quite “old”. It started its march in early 1898! Just imagine even before the new world order was created.

This might mean two important things: firstly, the company has been functioning so proper that even decades past it’s first steps it is still one of the world leaders in the field of the device production. The list of the equipments produced by the company is just not a topic for a single post.

The second important thing is that the company is able to adjust its equipments with the demand of that period. The thing is that the company is hiring the most powerful and creative designers and technology specialists of the world- to get the best results. I would argue that they actually got the best results ever.

As for now the company is consisting of four separate compartments: Philips Consumer Lifestyle, Philips Lighting, Philips Healthcare and the Philips Phones. Each of the compartments is organized in its own way to satisfy the desires of the public.

While the first 3 of them have a long history of development the last one is quite new. The Philips phones produced within this company are quite typical for this brand. Some of the critics think that Philips will not be able to gain larger shares in the market. But so far the company seems to be rejecting all of the rumors and proves to be the one that might have all of the necessary changes in the future.

Sony Ericsson T715 is another slider which belongs to the middle-price category, aimed for the mass market. The novelty can become prominent, as it has all the prerequisites – curious design, it is available in several colors, simple menu, decent functional. Now let’s consider everything in order.

Design

First of all I’d like to mention that I had the pink device. No, I do not mean that I am the enemy of this color but it somehow annoys me. However this can be accepted and understood by the part of the female audience, and may be someone would like to buy T715 because of its color. Corners of the shell are smoothed; however, this device does not cease to be a neat block. In addition, its size of a credit card allows you to put the phone in almost any pocket. Of course, the phone is not a slim one; we can’t call it thick, neither, so it can be called medium.
Now let’s have a look at exterior – the back panel is made of metal. It is removed easily. On the back lid is situated the eye of the camera, LED of the flash, slit of the polyphonic speaker. On the right side there is the camera button and volume control wheel, on the left side – the universal connector.
It has already become a tradition to decorate the backside slider with funny patterns. Sony Ericsson T715 is not an exception.

Display and Keyboard

Sony Ericsson T715 is equipped with a 2.2-inch display with 260 thousand colors. The screen itself behaves well, even in the sun. Though it doesn’t have big viewing angles, but they are enough. You can even e-book or play games.
Above the screen there is almost an invisible light sensor, which is responsible for automatic adjustment of backlighting. By the way, this can be done manually in the old-fashioned way.
Themes of the menu are very beautiful; a couple of them seemed to be drawn especially for girls.

Keys are stylish. Yes, don’t get surprised they are really stylish. However glamorous central navigation button hides a drawback. It is arranged so that when you press it in left or right direction you can easily press the green or red receiver. In addition, the navigation button is not very convenient. In order to stop arguing I will say that I did not like the control elements, but I can assure you that I met much worse ones.
Plastic keyboard is more or less adequate. Initially, small distance between vertical buttons strains a little, but if you press them with pads of your fingers, then you can avoid pressing unnecessary buttons. Due to uniform lighting all designations are clearly visible in the dark.

Menu and Functions

The menu has not changed, however, I did not expect to see anything new. So everything is done like in old models.
One of the most useful functions is “Organizer”. Here we see a convenient calendar; there is also a simple reminder, as well as editor of notes. Here is a file manager, timer, and stopwatch. And finally it is equipped with a flashlight. When you have to go downstairs from the 5th floor in pitch darkness, then you will understand why it is sometimes needed.
Alarm clock is a very useful thing, that’s why it is included in the main menu. Here are five independent pieces.
From useful things we should also mention Google Maps.

Entertainment

Music player is completely inherited from its predecessors. I mean both the interface and opportunities of musical applications. We can not say something special about the sound quality – the volume is sufficient for the underground, rock music sounds a bit synthetic, tint. However, with good headphones – Sony, Philips, etc., you can listen to music though it isn’t Nokia N96.
With the admission of FM-stations there is no problem in the city limits. It supports RDS, respectively, the names of stations and information is displayed on the screen.
To the usual arcade and Sudoku (games of T715), is added chess simulator Kasparov Chess.

Camera

Those who need a 5 MP camera should choose another phone, as T715 can take pictures with a maximum resolution of 3.2 MP, plus it does not have autofocus. The functional reserve of the camera is small. For example, there are several filters, presets for white balance, night mode, and the ability to attach geo notes on the photo. There isn’t any GPS-receiver in the novelty, so the location is determined by BS.

Conclusion

Sony Ericsson E715 is a typical representative of a mid-priced device segment. And it wouldn’t be appreciated, if not pleasant shape, and in our case, a cool color. It has too many competitors, among them this novelty can easily get lost.

Philips continues to produce more mobile phones of its famous line Xenium. The list of models is already so extensive that only the last two phones are held in the memory; however, the replenishment can not be avoided. So, meet this new Philips Xenium 9@9h.

Design
Xenium 9@9h retained the general features of design, characteristic of “literal” clamshells of Series 9@9 – compactness, light weight, easy to use and nice looking shell shape.
The cover of Xenium 9@9h leans with one hand, but there is not an automatic closer, as in many modern phones, therefore, certain dexterity of fingers to the owner of the mobile phone will have to be demonstrated in any case. But the sides of the shell are made of a slightly rough plastic, which helps easily to hold the phone in hand.
The battery lid, on the contrary, is very slippery and thin. In addition, it is clearly recorded a tight clasp, excluding backlash.

Made at the outer surface of the housing, the connector to connect the USB cable and the slot for the dynamics of polyphony has no protection, which raises legitimate concerns, especially given the fact that the speaker is placed in a very unusual place – in the upper end of the tube.
Frightening to think what might happen if someone tries to talk on the phone under the rain, not even the strong one.

Keyboard
The keyboard of Xenium 9@9h is pseudo-sensor, i.e. with a minimum speed buttons. And of course, it has both advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages, in fact, are purely aesthetic: Yes, the phone looks very stylish, it disguises its budget nature and nothing more. But typing on the keyboard, even if it is sufficiently broad to which the boundaries between the buttons can be discerned only after long training, and it is very inconvenient, there is no any “save” button.
In addition, the buttons seem to be too tight, although it is a matter of habit.

DisplayThe main goal that the developers of Xenium phones set themselves is the maximum battery life, so in this line of clamshells outer screen is either completely absent or replaced by a simple monochrome. In the case of the Xenium 9@9h, we have seen enough of the original decision. There is no external display on this phone. Instead, the outer cover is made of a dark plastic panel hiding 4 LEDs that show several states of the phone: entering a new text message, incoming / outgoing calls, the charging process.

The photo shows that you have a fresh SMS-SC and there is a missed call.
The main screen, is a real TFT-display, although not too large (128×160 pixels), with a noticeable grain, but generally provides acceptable image quality, including bright daylight.
In text mode screen is placed on five lines – more or less sufficient to draw or read a short message.

Options
A significant advantage of Xenium 9 @ 9h is a decent set of installed software, at least compared with previous models from this line. From business applications in the phone there is a calculator with the same nice GUI, as in the younger models. However, given the previously described problems with the keyboard input Xenium 9@9h, it is difficult to say whether this interface is tied to a navigation key.
In the functional set there is also a currency converter (maybe once developers figure it out replace it with a full-fledged universal converter units), clock with world time, alarm clock with three custom slot, voice recorder (maximum duration of one record is 12 minutes).

There is also a personal organizer with three viewing modes and three types of insertion events. Different sounds can be attached to events, as well as specify the regularity of recurrence – from daily to annual.
The notebook of Xenium 9@9h, on the contrary, is functionally very poor. It holds a thousand entries, each of which can store up to three different fields, conventionally marked as a phone number, fax number and IP-phone client. No additional fields. There is no opportunity to create groups of contacts, or the appointment of individual calls to individual contacts.

In Xenium 9@9h there is an FM-radio, and in the sales package you can find a good headset, serving as an antenna. It’s nice, because not every budget phone boasts about advanced multimedia capabilities.
But another problem emerges: the phone doesn’t play MP3-files! All that you can play with the tube (it is not even a player as a separate program) is midi, and AMR-files.
In Xenium 9@9h there is only 3 MB memory, and it does not support a memory card.

Conclusion
What I did not like in Xenium 9@9h is lack of functionality at the hardware level. Even as a budget model, the phone can not offer its users neither built-in camera, or wireless communication via Bluetooth. Given the penny cost of the two modules, we are inclined to believe that this restriction is not enforced due to the cost of production, as dictated by the positioning of Xenium 9@9h merely as a budget model, mimic a more serious mobile tool. Well, if the tube is designed to compete with Nokia 1100, then it has a good chance of winning.
On the other side Xenium 9@9h is equipped with long-life batteries and rather good design. Indeed, batteries, of Philips mobile phone beat all possible records, but how long this figure can persuade mobile users to give up opportunities that their comrades have grown accustomed for a long period of time?

MP3-players by Philips over the last year have won a reputation of stylish and original equipment, pleasantly standing out against the background of models of the majority of manufacturers both with the design and convenient operation. Perhaps that is why the company decided to enter the market with new musical mobile phones, the most brilliant two representatives of which we are going to speak about today.

Appearance
The new models are similar to each other like two brothers, and their size is almost identical: Philips M200 is 105 x 44.5 x 13.2 mm, and Philips M600 – 105 x 44 x 15.3 mm. But to understand which of the tubes is more expensive is not a great trouble.

Philips M200
The glossy black plastic of Philips M200 is emphasized by two pink circles – despite the sharp contrast of colors, they fit well in the overall design. The first circle is located on the front panel – this is a 4-position joystick, framing the large silvery “play” button. The second is at the top of the rear panel and is a purely decorative element, enhancing the internal speaker.
The side facets are bordered with a wide black stripe of opaque plastic. The telephone would certainly look more interesting if the border was silver – the color of the large “play” button. But for those who do not like bright colors, this model would be fine.

Philips M600
The main components of the shell of this phone are again made from glossy plastic, but the back panel, unlike the Philips M600 looks slightly more impressive due to a net of many grey dots – something from the series “a la carbon”. However, this “carbon” just as well attracts fingerprints and dust, as the unpainted plastic under it. Like with the Philips M200, when looking at the case of the more expensive “brother” two pink circles strike the eye, but in this case, they look much more elegant and complex. By the way, the circle on the back of the M600 highlights is not the speaker, but the built-in camera, while the net of the speaker is on the side.
The ends are also bordered with a wide stripe of opaque plastic, but not of dark black colour, but bright pink. The phone looks harmonious and cheerful and can appeal to the youth.

Time of autonomous work
The tubes are fitted with Li-Ion batteries of almost the same capacity: 1050 mAh in the M200 and 1100 mAh in the M600. Nevertheless, the time of their autonomous work differs greatly.

Philips M200

If you do not use the MP3-player, but talk on the phone about 20 minutes a day and regularly work with address book, you will have to charge the device on the third day of operation. Continuous listening to music will discharge the battery in 18-20 hours. Of course, simple MP3-players are capable of better results, but it is a good indicator for a phone.

Philips M600
While talking on the phone about 20 minutes a day and working regularly with the address book you can forget about charging for about three or four days. But, with continuous listening to music the device requires charging after 35-40 hours, which is also an excellent indicator, comparable with the best modern MP3-players, with no GSM-module and other communicational opportunities.

Philips M200
Unfortunately, the phone will disappoint all those who are looking for a device that supports Bluetooth. This module is missing from the M200, so it will fail to connect to other devices. Instead of this, the novelty has a built-in FM-radio with an extremely modest interface, but high-quality reception.
To change the structure of the menu or even the design of the icons is not possible, but to put wallpaper (even with animation support) is possible. The office abilities are presented in a standard set of tools: address book, alarm clock, calculator, stopwatch, a list of calls, an Internet browser, etc.
But the multimedia, except for the aforementioned FM-Radio, is presented by three simple games, a picture viewer and an MP3-player, which will be described in more details later.
In general it may be noted that the M200 with its possibilities can be considered a typical budget phone.

Philips M600
Unlike the M200, the more expensive version of the musical tube of Philips is equipped with Bluetooth, but … does not have an FM-radio. The reason is uncertain, but anyway, it is a minus for a musical device.
The graphic Russian menu of the new item is most similar to that which we have already seen in the previous model. Only that the matrix of icons, due to greater resolution, has a dimension not of 3 x 3 but 3 x 4.
Office opportunities of the M600 are the same as those of the M200 (see above), but the multimedia presents more. Thus, the unit supports java-applications, and can play video files, for which there is a video-player, modest in its capabilities, with support of MPEG4, 3GP and H.263video formats.
Unfortunately, the absence of an on-board FM-radio narrows the range of the users of the new item, but with all other resources the M600 is a classic modern youth phone.

Camera
Actually a musical phone does not necessarily need a good camera, but unlike other manufacturers Philips saved on this function as much as possible.

Philips M200
The main “hit of economy” fell on the junior model of the M200, in which the camera is non-existent. However, in many cases nothing is better than something but of a very poor quality. So everyone who is tired of cheap low-quality cameras of modern budgetary tubes will be pleased with the new junior Philips.

Philips M600
M600 is equipped with a camera, but with its characteristics, it is suitable for phones produced some three years ago. Judge yourself: the absence of flash and autofocus, a resolution of 1.3 MP. The camera stores photos in JPEG format with a maximum resolution up to 1280 x 1024 pixels and videos in MPEG4 or H.263 with a resolution of up to 352 x 288 pixels. Settings of the camera are few: just standard white balance, exposure, the possibility of imposing one of the few digital effects.
The quality of images is unlikely to endure any criticism – color rendition is unnatural (all images are in cold colors), the image is blurred, minor details are lost. Furthermore, after pressing the button “start” about three or four seconds pass before the camera shoots. By the way, just as slow is the album viewing. Below you can see some examples of photos.

Philips M200
The younger model is replenished with simple headphones, but replacing them will not be a hard work because the phone has a standard connector for their connection – minijack 3,5 mm. We have already talked about additional features – the player on the left hand edge, and the existence of FM-radio, so now it is time to say a few words about the program of work with the MP3-player.
The player works with file formats, MIDI, AMR and MP3. The absence of support for WMA is not a tragedy, but for a musical phone it is a drawback. The program can work in the background, so while you listen to music you can, for example, work with the notebook. The player interface is simple – choose from the available list any songs (by title, by artist or by genre) add to the playlist and play.
Of the options are worth noting the six preset EQ modes – it’s apity though that manual settings are not provided. The program works quickly, without brakes and hang-ups, which is extremely important for a music phone.

Philips M600
The MP3-player of the elder model does not differ in anything from that of the M200 so we won’t speak once again about its resources. However, it should be noted that the player of the M600 together with support for formats MIDI, AMR and MP3, supports WMA files as well. But now we will refer to other equally important differences of the M600.
The main feature of this tube is the existence of a separate on-board audio processor responsible for the quality of sound. As it turned out, it is not a spare function, because the sound of the M600 is deeper and clearer than in the M200.
In addition, the phone plays perfectly throughout the entire frequency range. Another feature related to audio functions of the new model, are earphones with silicone tips that are included in the standard set of the device.
These headphones will satisfy most music fans, but even they do not show all the possibilities of the new model. Those who want more, are advised to take advantage of more expensive headphones; the standard jack will not create problems for their connection. It is a pity only that the device provides a low volume, so in the subway the music is hardly audible.
And finally – the M600 supports work with wireless bluetooth-headsets, which by no means every modern MP3-player can do. Of course, the quality of audio transmission via Bluetooth is far from ideal, but the chance to dispense with the wires is still attractive.

Conclusions
Philips M200 is a record low price musical phone with a standard audio and integrated FM-radio. Of course, the absence of Bluetooth will prevent someone from the purchase, but for young people who rarely have extra money; this phone will certainly seem a worthy acquisition.

Philips M600 is significantly more expensive than its younger brother. But you will receive a full-fledged long-playing MP3-player and no less than a full phone into the bargain. It is a pity only that this apparatus is without an FM-radio and has an extremely inconvenient administration.

Appearance
The smooth plastic shell of Philips X800 is pleasant to the touch, the good shape and compact size (102 x 51 x 11 mm/110 g) are satisfactory. The front panel of the new model, like in most modern communicators and smarts, is a mirror coating.
But the side faces look a little unusual. They consist of two closed contours on the perimeter – silver at the bottom and black at the top. These contours form a broken facet with each other – bright, but elegant.
The rear surface of Philips X800 is fully removable. Under it there is a battery compartment. Interestingly, except a black lacquered panel, there are two more in the set – grey and brown with a golden hue, the latter is made of nice soft-touch plastic.
The main control unit, located below the display, is presented with two buttons that are responsible for the reception, the cancellation of the conversation, and power on / off.

The absence of traditional (even for normal phones) joystick or a cursor block affects the administration not in the best way, because there are situations when controlling the device using the touch screen is simply inconvenient.
Additional buttons are located on the sides. On the right are the double volume keys, as well as a round button activating the camera. And on the left is a sliding button which locks the phone that is simply necessary for a sensor model.
The new model is connected to computers via the miniUSB, located at the lower end. And stereo equipment is also connected through it, alas, there is no other exit. In one of the bottom corners is the habitat of the telescopic stylus. Surprisingly, the stylus of the X800 was much better than in most communicators.
The large diameter of the metal body is sufficiently long, edge lines are from high-quality plastic – all this allows working with comfort, the importance of which many manufacturers do not often consider.
If, however, to describe the appearance of Philips X800 in two words, we can say this: it looks simple, but elegant and with style. Perhaps, this is just how a classic and not the cheapest communicator is supposed to look like.

It must be noted that in the box with the X800 you will find many interesting things. First, we have listed the additional removable panels. Secondly, in the set there is a special napkin for wiping the display. And to avoid scratches on the display, the manufacturer suggests gluing on it the protective brand film, which also does not have to be bought extra. A MicroSD memory card of 1 GB is also available in the set. Well, in addition, the unit is supplied with a standard set consisting of a power adapter, interface cable miniUSB-USB, plain stereo, CD with programs and utilities, and operating instructions. The only thing one can wish is an extra stylus in case of the loss of the first.

Display
The sensory TFT-screen of Philips X800 is much larger than in most phones – here we have a diagonal of 2.8 inches and a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels. As to the indicators of the brightness, clarity and proper angles, you can call them without reservations as one of the best.
There are screen settings, therefore everything is in order.
Yes and no color problems, either – the picture looks bright, juicy, almost alive. Viewing photos on the X800 is becoming a very pleasant pastime.
And to ensure an easy management with fingers rather than stylus, the display is placed on a level with the shell and covered with a protective cover. To the sensitivity of the sensor substrate it is also difficult to present any claim.

Communications
Judging by communication opportunities the X800 is a classic GSM-device that works in range of 900/1800/1900 MHz. Data transfer is carried out through GPRS, and through faster EDGE. Connecting to other devices is carried out via Bluetooth. The phone keeps connection beautifully – no reprimands. But it is connected to the computer via classic USB 1.1, so the data transfer rate is low – about 0,5-1,0 MB / sec.

Camera
Philips X800 is not an expensive device, so its built-in 2-MP camera shines with no decent functionality. The only advantage is its autofocus, but it does not work as one would wish either – too slow to bring on and often wrong. The supplement to the camera control is executed without sophistications. The most important thing is that all of it is adapted to the administration of a finger.
Settings are few, but in this case it is not so important, because images are obtained with noise, with problems in color transfer and are not sharp, although the maximum resolution is decent – 1600 x 1200.
Below you can see the test images by the camera of X800. You can see that the quality is far from ideal.

Time of autonomous work
Unlike the camera, the manufacturer has paid much more attention to the choice of the battery – Li-Ion battery of a capacity of 1250 mAh is rather infrequent in other phones.
Perhaps this choice is due to the decent diagonal display, which requires considerable energy expenditure. The time of autonomous work is 20 minutes of day talking, watching the address book and tapes of news websites via GPRS took a whole week! According to this index it is extremely difficult to find competitors to X800 in the Russian market of mobile communications.

The main menu is made in the form of a matrix of 3×4 icons.
The manufacturer did not make the design elements variegated and bright, but was confined to only two or three colors and their shades. Nevertheless, the icons and fonts look good and stylish, and they are worked out in detail. In addition, the main menu icons, and text sub-strings are made quite large, so that navigation with the finger is no trouble.

It is impossible not to mention the scrupulous execution of the menu, common to all interface colors and style, as well as very high functionality. The interface does not pull up – all the switching and transitions between menu items are implemented promptly. The reproduction of animation also presents no special difficulties for the new model.
The phonebook of X800 is not worse and not better than in other modern devices. Typing names in the book (as well as text messages) is easier after all with the stylus – the letters of the virtual keyboard are not large enough.
For each recipient, you can enter four numbers, assign a ringtone, and set an image. In addition, contacts can be divided into several groups with individual calls.
The work with office tools (notes, alarm clock, stopwatch, world time, currency converters and values) is satisfactory. It is here that the stylus is indispensable. But a «reader» of e-books is not found in every phone. It is especially pleasing that this utility even has a number of settings, such as a choice of font size and scroll speed.
It would be better, if it could read other formats of electronic books as well, besides the simple TXT, and worked more correctly with the Cyrillic.

Even more rarely phones are able to view office files in formats such as doc, xls, ppt, pdf, html. The X800 copes with this easily.
The built-in recorder amazed with its elective sensitivity – the recorded voice was clear, without noise and other artifacts.
Multimedia features in the new model are presented in the form of a conveniently manageable MP3-player, working in background mode, and an FM-radio.
Unfortunately, the playback volume is low, so in the streets, subways and in other transport, almost nothing is heard. To say anything specific as to the quality of the sound is difficult: too low volume, for example, and almost no noticeable bass. Apparently, music, alas, is not the strongest point of the X800.
Preinstalled games on the phone are just two.
But because the X800 is supported by Java MIDP 2.0, the installation of additional software will cause no trouble. The only thing that the attention of the user should be drawn to, is the absence of a navigation key in the device, without which it is simply impossible to play most games.

Conclusions
Philips X800 is not expensive. For that money the user gets a stylish phone in a form-factor of communicator with an excellent touch screen and with an interface designed specifically for finger control. In addition, the new model is specified with an unprecedented long time of autonomous work, and a good set. Of course, the “weak” camera and the absence of a button block of cursor regulation are the indisputable bad sides of the X800, but the rich functionality of the built-in software brings the phone close to the family of smart phone- communicators, which are at least twice as expensive.
Philips will be a good purchase, if you want to get a sensory control and a big screen, but do not want to spend considerable funds for the purchase of a communicator, or you do not need all its capabilities.

An amazing case when a market leader in mobile communications devices does not have enough traditional batteries, the company starts to use already forgotten format of energy carriers. Here is Xenium X520, which is able to squeeze all the juice not only from a rechargeable battery and but from all the surrounding ones.

Appearance

Philips Xenium X520 attracts everyone with its mysterious form of a shell, bringing nostalgia of cassette players and pagers (beepers), and also of banal remote control for home appliances. It is really amazing. However, apart from the fussy block below, the size of the phone is quite typical – 111,1 x 48,8 x 16,3 mm.

Yes, it has exactly 16 mm of thickness, and do not believe the advertising image, there you can see that the lower part is much thicker as flat side of the butt-end make the device look much thicker. However, the thickening at the rear part of the shell can be considered a necessity, because it will be inconvenient to hold a 95-g device in your hand.

On the front side of the device you can notice a silver navigation key with a relief texture, as well as a flat button of confirmation “Ok”. In general, the whole block of keys on the phone was made as separate plane areas of opaque plastic, separated by a glossy front panel. The keys have a short tight stroke with a clear click, invariably accompanied by a click. In addition white lights under the small letters are also worth mentioning.

Just above the keyboard a thick plastic cover is placed, which is designed to protect the 2-inch TFT-screen with a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels from mechanical damages. The applied matrix does not have excellent quality colors – 260 000 colors. However, there is no need to expect more from the Philips phones and do not expect particularly outstanding results. Of course, you can read phone number and text message without any difficulty, but studying pictures and photographs in sunny weather will be much more difficult.

There is a conversational dynamics opening above the display, which is located directly in the center. Polyphonic speaker is hidden on the back side, next to the small enclosed module of 2-MP camera without autofocus.

There are separate silver volume keys with tight audible click at the ends. There is also a slot for micro SDHC memory card, located on the right end. In the same place, close to the lower compartment, you will notice one more interesting detail, the attachment for the strap, unusually solid and reliable.

Battery

The block is a cylindrical projection, the diameter of which is the 16.5 mm. Polarity battery switch is located on the left end of the block, but from the opposite end, everything is made much funnier.

While rolling the holder, you can see the battery compartment, under the storage component of the standard AAA, spread not less than the traditional finger batteries. In addition, the kit has an Energizer battery.

The main battery is located under the back lid, which you can remove with a hand movement. Under there is a Li-Ion battery with a capacity of 1050 mAh «hidden», providing five days of work in the everyday operation of phone calls and half an hour of listening to music. The batteries charge the device for up to two three-days of work.

Interface & Communications

When you first listen to the greeting sound of X520 you see that it is not worth waiting for anything complex in the phone, and after a couple of seconds, we already see the concise standby mode. Here everything is done without a hint of originality, but this simplicity in fact seems to be convenient. The menu may be represented by a boring list, or matrix of 12 simple icons.

Submenu and all other places of the interface are presented in the form of lists with nice animation cursor, and at the same time you can quickly move to the line through the numerical keys. It is a pity that the ease of navigation is not supported by the personalization, which allows one to change wallpaper in the standby mode or to choose a lighter theme, instead of a dark one. There are also seven profiles in this device. You can adjust each of the five profiles to your taste; you can choose offline and silent alert.

Calling service consists of a simple-to-use phone book that can store up to 1000 entries consisting of a name and a number. This Spartan filling of each cell is an offset with a «black» list of ignored numbers, user-friendly control scheme records, as well as simple editing functions of subscriber numbers in a call row. Accordingly, the call lists serve only for the most basic information, without any counters and tariff.

There are two separate SMS and MMS editors, creating simple multimedia messages, or banal text messages consisting of 1-4 length 60 characters.

Communications

Despite the fact that Xenium X520 belongs to the innovations of 2009 at an average price range, we cannot speak about its abilities to support networks of the third generation. Instead, you have to enjoy only GPRS-connection.

In addition to the wireless connection it has a normal mini USB-connector for charging and connection to a PC. In the latter case, the choice remains between the connection as an ordinary flash and expanded opportunities as a modem, which would require a software installation from the CD.

Utility and games

It has three separate alarms. Each of them can be configured to repeat on selected weekdays, or dwell on a single signal.

In addition, there is a good organizer with a calendar, voice recorder to record sounds, ability to set recording to playback at the selected time, the black list of unwanted numbers, calculator, stopwatch and timer. In general, all is quite ordinary, if you do not take into account the ease and simplicity of using the black list of numbers. If you have few minutes to rest, here are simple games such as funny Snake or Sudoku.

Multimedia

The music player will surprise you by the presence of sorting. The radio has a high quality sound, as well as memory for 20 stations. Naturally X520 has RDS and AF, so everything is quiet normal with radio.

Camera

The phone has a built-in 2-megapixel camera. In addition, there are several settings, including color effects and serial imaging. You can also save funny moments of your by recording movies with a resolution of 176 x 144, at 5-15 frames per second.
