Compared with the previous variations of the past years this is the company’s hardest commitment to retain the classical form, and for this reason we do not see another attempt to cross the impossible and elegantly elongated body with a minimum of sharp color shots. To fans of accurate data it can be proposed to estimate by eye the size of Samsung S5510, constituting 93,8 x 46,7 x17, 7 mm, that does not speak at all about anything, because of the lower shell width decreases to 4 cm smooth, thick and loses in size about another couple millimeters. What can I say about the design of new RARZ? A stylish thing! Of course, Maxx resembles its predecessors. The design of the camera was slightly changed, the edges have become more tapered, lighting of the front mirror panel; touch buttons for player control.

As expected, the “mirror” panel is covered with fingerprints, and by the end of the day of working with Motorola V6 Maxx should be subjected to general cleaning. Well, although the entire body is made of soft touch plastic, “dirt” is badly visible on it.

At your disposal are 12 fields, including postal address, a field for birthday, e-mail, mail, URL-address, etc.

One list shows the contacts in the memory of the phone and the other one in the memory of SIM-card, but in order to see the number, you need to open the contact. We passed some months with Motorola RAZR V6 Maxx, I was pleased and even fell in love with this mobile phone, mainly for its stylish design. The functional Maxx can not compete with a smartphone S60, but, frankly, they have a different target market. This mobile phone has everything we need: a player, a calendar, a good notebook, Java support (mobile “ICQ” worked), a decent camera.

It is interesting what will Motorola from RAZR-line offer in the near future.

Design
The phone designed for a business man must meet certain standards of mobile dress code, without pretentiousness and brightness. The device should not attract attention. All these requirements and wishes fully correspond to a new Fly B600 business mobile phone.
The dimensions of this phone are 110×49x14 mm. Weight is also proportional: only 110 grams. The device easily fits in pockets of trousers or a jacket.
The front panel is made of a high-quality plastic. The back part of Fly B600 is made of a soft (it seems rubberized) plastic. Camera protrudes from the shell and has no cover. Thus, you will have to put the phone either on screen or on the lens of the camera – decide which one you need less.
I think that serious buyers can find any drawback in this phone.

Display
Asian manufacturers have accustomed us to the fact that their phones have displays above average. And if you’re skeptical you expect good performance from the screen of B600 but I have to disappoint you. Executed on TFT-technology, the display shows up to 260 thousand colors and has resolution of 240×320 pixels (2.4 inches). As a result, the screen takes up the most space; keypad and the speaker are simply lost in the background.
The first thing that your eye catches is that the display is very, even too bright. But the real shock comes after a short jogging on the settings. Colors are juicy and bright, the image is perceived well, did not catch on for anything. Such a display is perfect for working with text and calendar.
The only thing that upset me are its viewing angles. They are sufficient for comfortable work; however, the image is badly tarnished vertical even when rejecting a couple of degrees.

Keyboard
Dark and light gray buttons harmoniously complement each other.
The screen took so much space that the bottom row of keys, could hardly find a place, and moved gracefully as the fourth column in the right lane. Of course, such a decision is unusual for most users, but it is not so critical that the next day at the level of reflexes fingers themselves find the right path.
Buttons should be sufficient for comfortable work, have an average course and allow you to quickly and carelessly work with any text.
Additional controls are buttons to access the camera on the right end (horizontal shooting mode) and the usual rocker for volume control, on the left side. In addition, one should mention the three connectors (they are all closed strong enough plugs) – expansion slot for memory cards microSD, mini-USB (it also serves to connect the charger) and 2.5-mm headphone input (TV-out).

Menu
The menu of Chinese phone is almost always quiet horror. No eastern colors, all is very succinctly.
The main menu shows 12 icons; with the upper line the system information is available in both the substantive and in any sub-menu. Chapters are arranged quite comfortably and that is important – it is logical. There was only one question. It is unclear why the album is under “Entertainment”, but Video album in “Multimedia”. Agree that it can be called only a minor drawback.
Separately I want to note the high level of localization is another issue of Asian phones. All menu items are transferred without errors, absurd reductions as a result of which it is impossible to understand. Well, the font is very nice; the eyes do not get tired.

Functions
Although we have determined that this phone is suitable for business people. Thus the phone should support applications which business man needs. First, it is an organizer. Menu of Fly B600 consists of a calendar, tasks, alarm and world time. Calendar is comfortable enough, you can assign notes (point of the problem “duplicate this feature, and made, apparently for faster access) to the date and time, while adjusting items such as: light, repetition, timing, number of repetitions. The only drawback of the calendar is the weekly view.
The user provides three independent alarms, each of them can choose the time (including on the day).

But what is most interesting is that this phone has some exceptional abilities. First recall the aforementioned TV-out (cable included). Easily connecting your phone to your TV provides great opportunities for both presentations and to view photos in the family.
By connecting the telephone to a computer via miniUSB cable (included, but not with a standard connector), you’ll see a menu of three items: use your phone as a modem, a flash-drive or as Web-camera.

Fans of honor on the road will appreciate the availability of reading “electronic books”. Settings are enough for comfortable reading. Of course, you can find a replacement in the ranks of Java-applications, but the existence of such a function is inherent, whatever one may say, plus.
Finally comes the function that you’ve encountered only in smartphones running Symbian and then as an alternative software. This is the background sound, overlay tube during a call. Camera
A 3.2 megapixel camera with flash and autofocus is already a matter of respect, though photos are not of the best quality.
As we have already mentioned, you shoot in a horizontal position.
The camera cannot turn into a camcorder. The latter is a separate program and is available from the “Multimedia” menu. Rollers can record the entire free memory at resolutions 176×144 and 352×288. Codecs are MPEG4 and H.263. Video has good quality, it is quite enough for viewing on the phone and share with friends. As for the camera, it works very slowly. When shooting with a maximum resolution (2048×1536 pixels) by pressing the capture button to direct the photograph, is about a second or two, during which you are sure to slightly move the phone, and this guarantees blurry picture.
It is noteworthy that when shooting from 1600×1200 and less, you can not notice such things. There is a problem with low productivity of the processor.
You can save your photos or video in 87 MB internal memory and microSD memory card (not included) up to 2GB.

Conclusion
Even though the phone has two stereo speakers, it is virtually inaudible in the city noise.
The situation could partly rescue the vibration, but it is very weakly expressed, as in the pocket of pants, it is hardly felt.
It is very uncomfortable to type SMS-message. For example, standard things such as capital letter after full stop.
You can find a few more minor soft-roughness and irregularities. But let us remember the low price of the novelty above opportunities. Thanks to TV-out all the deficiencies can be forgiven at once.
Despite the huge display, Li-Ion battery (940 mAh) copes with its task. Telephone works up to 4 days at 20 minutes of talking time and use of various functions. But even with such a very decent performance, the manufacturer added the supplied spare battery, just on the safe side.
As a result, Fly B600 is very pleasant and worth much money. If you want a modern, reliable, functional assistant in the cheap price range, Fly B600 definitely can rightly be considered one of the best mobile phones.

Design
A501 is really small, its dimensions are 20.7 x 59.6 x 95.7 mm (weight 130 g), it is slightly less than similar communicators with the 2.7 display “. But unlike the majority, Mio A501 doesn’t have a very strict form of a brick – rounded edges and cut lower edge add special originality to its appearance.
The shell is divided into two pieces of different shades of gray, and dividing oval line of the section runs between two rows of buttons on the front panel below the display. From the first sight it looks like the device is made in the form of a slider, and there is a keyboard under the display.
Nevertheless, the A501 is not a slider, a game of colors is just an idea of design. However, the idea was successful! It is difficult to confuse the novelty with any other communicator. Furthermore, the quality of materials above all praises.
By the way, Mitac Mio A501 is already followed by the model Mio A502 (right photo), similar to A501, but with slightly different appearance, and with the 6th “Windows” on board.

LCD sensitive display, as has been said, has a 2.7 diagonal. The range of brightness change is wide and working with it comfortable in any lighting.
Also, we must note the large angle of view and excellent colors. So it is impossible to find fault in the display, well, may be resolution 320 х 240 points is already a bit outdated.
The device runs under Windows Mobile 5.0, with a processor by Texas Instruments – OMAP 850 with a frequency of 200 MHz. The processor is not productive, but it is fulfilling its function reliably – working with office programs and multimedia is stable.
Much more unusual is the situation with the memory of the novelty. The amount of RAM is standard – 64 MB, but the volume of ROM is not 128 MB, as in most of communicators, but 1 GB! Such amount of memory is enough to install almost any necessary software, including maps for GPS- navigation.

But, as it has been said, because of the weak performance of the processor, Mitac Mio A501 had not demonstrated high performance. We tested the possibility of using the Spb Benchmark device.

Communication capabilities
Unfortunately, the novelty doesn’t have all communication capabilities. Those who want to use A501 for internet connections through Wi-Fi will be disappointed, the communicator does not have such module. It has Bluetooth 2.0, but it can’t fill the gap of communication opportunities.

On the other hand, those who often enjoy the services of GPRS will like the novelty – it supports EDGE. Like most modern devices A501 has a very stable connection. It is interesting that for those who do not like to examine settings, the producer gave the possibility of connecting GPRS by pressing one key.

Four GSM- ranges are available – 850/900/1800/1900, so wherever you are gone, you will stay on line.
Sound and autonomy

Both dynamics of A501 have relatively high maximum volume and clear sound without noise.
Headset had shown good work, despite the fact that it can be easily replaced by another, more suitable to you, because the connector is a standard 2.5 mm minijack.
A501 has a removable lithium-ionic battery with a1050 mAh capacity. This is not too much, but the 501th is not the only one with such a battery. With an average intensity of work (calls, phone book editing, checking e-mail), the battery has ten hours of use. If you save energy, it would be necessary to charge the battery every two days.

Integrated camera of Mitac Mio A501 has nothing remarkable, despite the existence of auto focus, the flash and mirror for self-portrait. The camera has CMOS-sensor 2.0 Mp resolution and lets making photos in JPG format with a maximum resolution 1600 x1200.
The program interface is responsible for the photo / video filming, and it is quite simple, but attractive and understandable to anyone. Camera doesn’t have a lot of options (quality, turning flash on/out, a serial shooting, mode etc.), but it is hardly a disadvantage, because the quality of images cannot be compared even with the images from any modern low-cost digital camera.
The map can be placed not only in two, but in three planes. So you can expand a bit the area of the map without changing the scale. And for work at night, when bright light irritates eyes, the program provides a special regime of work with predominantly dark-colored elements.

A501 is built on the basis of the most popular todays chip SiRFStar III, that’s why the device starts quickly (cold start – about two minutes, hot – more than two seconds), and subsequently did not lose the connection to the satellites.
It is necessary to note an additional utility “Fast GPS- positioning”, which can substantially reduce the time of cold start, the information about the current location of satellites can be automatically downloaded from the internet, for example with the use of GPRS. But another tiny utility, pre-installed in A501, lets quickly send SMS messages.
Software
Another feature of the novelty is a rather large set of preloaded software. Producer worked even over the appearance of Windows Mobile – the desktop of the Mitac Mio A501 is in black and gray colors. There is a quick launch for some applications on it, as well as panel with updated through the Internet information about the weather in the selected region. However, if you do not like new interface, you can go back to a more accustomed one.

Sorry to say but there are also some minuses. The lack of Wi-Fi module could affect the range of potential users of the device. However, the price easily leaves behind some competitors.

It is well known that the most long-expected novelties are rather expensive and sophisticated smartphones, or as for Sony Ericssonn – these are popular devices of Walkman series. A new clamshell Z555i by Sweden-Japan partnership is not the one of super-expected models and that is why it can stay unnoticed even by those whom it is addressed to. Although girls might like it.

Design

We can see a typical not expensive clamshell, something from a series of “phone for USD 250″.
In order to make its typicalness stay within the limits of allowable, the producers put on some glam to the front panel. Its surface is alike covered with small prisms that are playing in the sun beams falling on them. It looks especially effective in the sun when the phone just flashes out in the lights.
The obvious minuses are weakness of the front panel for showing all the fingerprints and other kinds of contamination, but we do know very well that such behavior is typical for the great quantity of modern phones. That’s ok; we are getting accustomed to that little by little. Except decorations on the front panel we can find a camera lens with a tiny LED (flashing upon certain circumstances), polyphonic loudspeaker and a single-line black-and-white inverse display showing service information.

In standby mode it is “hidden” under the glossy panel and reminds of itself while there is an incoming call, incoming SMS and if you press a volume control wheel. Everything is typical and accurate. Oh, almost forgot that even if it is rather hard to open the cover with one hand, still it is possible, nevertheless, you should not try to do that while walking, in other way you can badly drop the phone. The back side, to be more exact the cover of the battery, is fulfilled with a rather thin rough plastic; the same is used for the W910i model.
In fact, we do not have a “hot” change of a memory card, but a “warm” one, because we still have to take off the battery cover for that purpose. On the upper side of the phone there is an “ear” for the thong, on the left – a jack, on the right – a volume control wheel. Everything is traditional. No patterns, flowers, ornaments and other decorations of modern phones, oriented first of all to women’s attention.
The interior of Sony Ericsson Z555i is more modest, than stylish.

Keyboard and display

The disposition and the form of keys are rather typical, but frankly there is one novelty about this. For example, the key responsible for turning off/on the phone is placed right in the middle of the front panel, “clutched” in between the browser key and the key of quick menu launch.
Such arrangement does not make problems in working, because you get used to that for 1-2 hours and besides, short pressing this sacred key does not lead to turning off the phone. In spite of this you can see the profile list on the screen. On the picture we see a slightly curved shape of typesetting keys that plays a good part practically as well as aesthetically – it is pleasant to look at it, and fingers are not making accidental pressing.

The size of the keys is optimal, and as for me I liked the short response. Its clear that the digital block is not ideal, but we have what we have. It is pleasant that black keys have light inserts, but it cannot be considered a super-stylish decision, it looks satisfactory, nothing more. The navigation is not very comfortable, mostly because of the flat 4-position key at the same level with other keys. It’s just hard to feel the keys bounds with a finger and you have to be careful. The micro-lights depend on the light sensor which is working very correctly – the battery economy is never something extra.

The main display is very common – TFT matrix with a resolution of 176╤Е220 pixels. I remember that such display characteristics were the same as people-music-youth device of 2005 – Motorola E398. We should frankly tell that Sony Ericsson Z555 matrix is better of course, the lights are richer, the image angles are enough to write SMS when you are elbowing in the transport. The image quality is not bad, the grains are almost not seen, and the brightness resource is good. One thing is bad – a small physical size and that is why you can feel that the producer did not spend much for display.

Menu, Control

A typical menu presented with a usual set of 12 icons is quite common for SE devices that is why it will hardly surprise anyone or call admiration. It is comfortable to move around the icons because the device is slightly vibrating, showing every movement like that.
There are functions list, and you wont be accompanied with vibration moving around there. And yes, as always there are several themes in this device (to be more exact – four of them).
They are cute, one of them is even nice (with flowers), and that is definitely for girls.
Shortcut menu consists of 4 marks. One of them shows information about events, the second shows the applications you are using right now, the third – quick access to the functions you are choosing yourself, the fourth – web URLs.
Besides that, you can program the directions of the 4-position key for quick launch of these or those functions.
Its a pity that you cant change a web browser launch key, because surfing the net at using a small display is not so pleasant.

Useful trifles

Unlike Nokia devices, Z555i has five alarms versions, activated on certain days of the week and you can choose any MP3 melody as alarm ring tone.
I liked a simple reminder function; for writing down a new event (meeting/call) I needed not more than 20 seconds. The notebook is of the same style, just without a remind function.

The calendar has a rather good functionality, but the month table looks a bit small there. I am serious; you have to look intently to see what date will be on next Saturday. If the letters were bolder and the table was bigger there won’t be such problems.

There are common things like timer and stopwatch with nine intermediate results.
The memo book is of the same kind like the previous models have and has very comfortable horizontal keys too.
You can write down five numbers for one contact, e-mail and web address, choose a personal ringtone and a picture, and fill in the personal data like mailing address, company name, place of work, birth date.
On one hand – not so much, on the other hand – quite enough for the majority of users. As usual, the phonebook of the device itself and a SIM card are not shown as a single list, but you can choose showing the SIM card contact list by default.

Camera

Sony Ericsson Z555i is the type of the phones that you are not expecting anything unusual about them. That is why, frankly speaking, I was not even surprised when I saw a 1,3 megapixel camera. Of course it would be more pleasant to see a 2 megapixel camera, but…

There are not so many adjustments. The user can chose the size of the picture (1,3 Mp or VGA), a single frame or a series of 4 pictures, two types of the image quality, night mode, balance of white, several color effects, 4 sounds for confirmation of the shutter actuation, timer.

In other words, everything is more than usual. Not the whole display is used for the viewfinder purposes (we can see that on the pictures); the upper part is given to the series of icons, which, in fact, you don’t need, the lower part – for the signatures of the context keys. It is quite easy to use this simple camera; the picture is taken when you press the left context key or the central key. The camera is working really rapidly, the image recording to the phone or a card memory lasts for no longer than 1,5 seconds. The quality of the pictures is expectedly not high; in fact, you can see it on your own.

Player/radio and games

MP3 player (to be more exact – its interface) is also familiar due to the previous models. A rather strict, imperceptible design, several preinstalled equalizers, working in a background mode. There is also a function of sorting by an artist, track, and you can make your own playlists.

The quality of sound of our test example was not bad, we were especially surprised with a high volume (the music was heard quite well in the other end of the room – 12 m), but as for the bass function – it is not so good if you wear the earphones from the set as well as inlay earphones by Philips and Koss. I guess that the commercial examples of the player will be better.

The FM receiver sensitivity is not bad. Five of the stations make noises, the rest of the twenty were quite fine (the sound is clear with minimal noises).
There is also a mode of automatic tuning working quite correctly and finding out the radio stations even with a weak signal. The RDS system is working quite well.
As well as a player, a radio can turn into tray releasing display for other things. The most comfortable way to activate it is to choose it among the mentioned list of the applications.

Games are: logic Jewel Quest II and photo hunting FotoQuestFish. Both games are good, but I liked the one with fish most.
The sense of the game is that you are a diver and for the limited time you have to make good pictures of different kinds of fishes (no need to go to Egypt). In this game you get the points by the following way – the more fish you get into the frame of your photo camera, the more points you get. The game is quite pleasant and the time you spend going for work glides.

On-line

The data transfer speed between the phone and PC via Bluetooth is 32-38 Kb/second. Besides that, Sony Ericsson Z555i had no problems working with different BT accessories including stereophonic. There are no claims on the connection quality, everything corresponds to the expected level, and there were no connection breaches, the people you are talking to can be heard quite clearly. The battery charge was enough for three days without turning off the phone for the night (as for me – I practice that sometimes), talking for 10-15 minutes a days, long-time searching around menu, about half an hour of listening the music, rare Bluetooth sessions.

Outcome

Sony Ericsson Z555i cannot be called a stylish, glamorous and a kind of attractive device. If it is a Dusted Rose color – you can call this a device for girls, but if it is black it’s not clear who should be the user. A girl will hardly choose something like that – she is willing to choose something more elegant, a man will just pass it through. So, it means the device is something in the middle, which is quite offensive.

Today, not much is left for the manufacturers of communicators on Windows – on one hand to reduce prices, but on the other – make windows-system more functional. The hero of our today’s review, apparently, is created precisely in this way. Rover N6 is not an expensive device and has a built-in GPS-receiver.

Design
Let’s start with the packaging. A simple black box, on the front side depicts the hero of the review, and on the back has briefly listed specifications. In the kit are supplied: wired headphones, headset, with a button to answer an incoming call. These headphones are also the antenna when using the built-in FM-radio. The sound quality can be described as acceptable, but it should be understood that the reference to expect cleanliness and quality of sound from a supplied set of headphones with the device is at least reasonable (especially considering the retail price of the communicator).
Rover N6 is entirely made from soft plastic. With this coating device does not slip out of hands, as well as from the plastic front panel of the car.

Colors of this device are black, matte, after a while small stains and marks sometimes appear on the shell. However, they are easily removed with a napkin. So if you want your N6 always look like new – wipe it frequently. I would rate resistance of the coating as high – scratches or scrapes do not appear on the case (although I sometimes treated this smartphone rather unceremoniously – I carried it in a pocket with a bunch of keys without the protective cover).
However, I still prefer to have a removable plastic lid, such as the ancient PDA hp iPAQ 2410. Another minor defect, or even, rather quibbling – between the case and the screen is located on the perimeter gasket and there is a small gap. In that same gap you can find extraneous things that in abundance “are found” in every pocket.

Control and Ergonomics
The control of Rover N6 is reduced to up 6 buttons, plus a 4-way joystick with the button “Ok” in the center of the bottom of the screen. There are also other buttons to which I have claims.
For example, the camera activation button located on the right side of the shell is only slightly above the button “cancel the call”, and I often accidentally pressed on it.
The power button is on the left side of the shell and in contrast with the camera button, to find erors here is simply impossible – even in my pocket, I never accidentally clicked on it. Rover N6 supports microSD memory cards, but it is not compatible with a subset of standard SDHC, so that memory cards are limited to 2 GB.
The stylus is taken out from the lower right corner and it tightly sits in its “nest”.
In addition, the stylus is not simple and extendable – made of metal – for me this is a plus, though, the cold chilled fingers. The size and diameter of the stylus is very successful – it is well balanced.

Display and Camera
Another advantage of Rover N6, in my opinion, is the LCD display. Rover N6 has a display with a diagonal of 3.2 inches, (but not 2.8 as most of its competitors).
On this display, I easily and naturally read the things that interest me, moving around the city by public transport. In addition, due to the large diagonal and relatively low resolution – only 320 x 240 pixels you can easily control the device without the stylus – on-screen buttons are large enough.
Only in direct sunlight the display “blinds”.
The camera is another big claim. This is a kind of “visual notebook” if only because there is no built-in flash and autofocus. All camera settings are displayed as a semitransparent menu on the screen of the communicator.
The buttons on the screen are rather large and easily pressed with your fingers.

Hardware capabilities
Communicator is based on processor from Marvell – PXA270 with 416 MHz.
For all the time using the device will shut down only once, while keeping one phone call at the moment of switching on the second incoming number – help “soft” reboot. By the way, the button “soft” reboot is under the battery cover. When you use the communicator as a phone N6 provides average quality of reception and the same average quality of the voice through the speaker.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are working steadily, the machine does not hang, though, the battery power significantly decreases. Device supports Bluetooth-A2DP profile for wireless stereo headphones. We have saved the N6 “tasty” part for the end; it has a built-in GPS module.

The only disadvantage, which is rumored to be corrected by the new firmware Navigator is the so-called “cold start” receiver. Depending on the position it takes from 15 to 20 minutes, but “hot start” is very fast – about 20-30 seconds.
GPS-satellite receiver does not lose, but it puts the battery very quickly, so that for use as a GPS-system in the car, car charger is very, very necessary.
If you use the communicator as a phone – at an average intensity of the conversations of 20 minutes a day and a dozen SMS, plus about an hour a day as a player including Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, the device operates about 3-4 days.
It has a 1500 mAh capacious battery. The call is fairly loud, it is heard, even on a noisy street, but the vibration is a little weak – in the pocket of the jacket the user won’t feel the vibration.

Ringtones have made a long trip and the technology is still advancing providing some interesting and usefulapplications. Mobile ringtones is the best proof that innovation produces creativity. As in the case of other products around us, ringtones also changed for the better as a superior format, the polyphonic tones were invented. The simplistic, strictly made for the purpose monophonic tones were abandoned in a trice in the wake of the advent of the polyphonic tones. These tones could produce a cacophony of up to sixteen instruments generated sounds at one time, which made the resulting stream of sounds seem like music. This type of tones is still in vogue. Ringtones are now available in different forms of music based on different themes, culture and mood of the consumer. Most manufacturers produce such mobile phones where users can not only choose from many musical ringtones but also program their own for a very personalized ringtone and, in other cases, ringtones can be downloaded through a WAP connection.

However, be cautious when you buy a phone, not all phones let you add programmable free ringtones. Some lock that function. So before buying a phone, check The Ringtones FAQ forthe most recent compatibility list.

The incomes from selling ringtones are outstanding and the field is still growing in leaps and bounds. Competition among sellers to attract more customers have brought out some welcome innovations like sing tones and name tones. For the discerning public, it seems, this is just a beginning.

Motorola, once a pioneer in the market of mobile telephony, is now in the shadow of other, less famous, but more on the ball manufacturers of portable electronics. But watching from afar the growth of the segment of the so-called camera phones (phones with powerful photo capacities) is clearly not to the liking of the company. A little late, Motorola announced a really interesting solution – Motozine ZN5. How the company managed to accumulate the previous experience and what was the outcome?

Design
A key element in the perception of a mobile phone is certainly its appearance. Whatever its technical characteristics are, if the design causes dislike, it would be extremely difficult to make friends with such a device. The segment camera-phones do not boast of particularly elegant exterior, but still have something to please the eye.
Motorola makes no secret that Motozine ZN5 is the response of the company to the already produced solutions from Sony Ericsson and Nokia. On their background the ZN5 looks quite organic, and to some extent, even fresh. The point is that when you first look at the novelty, it seems that this is normal, so to speak, business unit.
The appearance of Motozine ZN5 is standard for mobile handset from Motorola. The only currently available graphite color organically fits to the spirit of the ZN5 – strict, but with taste.
By the way, the weight of the phone is 114 grams, the size equals to 18h50, 5h16 mm, while the latter figure – includes the thickness of the module chamber, for the rest of the perimeter of this figure is 12 mm. In fact, for a serious camera-phone, these characteristics are at a very high level. The closest competitors cannot boast of such forms.

With regard to the subjective experience of work with the ZN5, phone could be called attractive. It has no outstanding or memorable elements (well, except the purple buttons activating the camera on the right end). Due to this fact, the audience, capable of being interested in such a product from Motorola, is very wide.
The competitors added zest to their camera-phones in the form of loud names of the photo-industry. We know that such a simple marketing move perfectly valid for the ordinary consumer. In the case of Sony Ericsson it is the prefix CyberShot from the world of digital cameras of Sony, and Nokia has added the logo Carl Zeiss, as one of the leaders in producing high quality optics. Motorola has entered into an alliance with the company Kodak. And even if today the world-renowned manufacturer of photo technology is, in a sense, on the sidelines (as Motorola is, when it comes to mobile phones), it is clear that a company, which has a history of 120 years, will not produce anything bad.

In Motozine ZN5 everything is subject to the photo abilities of the phone. Motorola is trying by all means to show what an excellent option Motozine is for capturing and working with photograph. In a sense, it will have to be tolerated, for example, on the tactile level – after all the block of the camera is fairly massive and causes inconvenience.
The main body is made of high quality plastic, and the rear lid is made of metal. By the way, it has a rather unsteady attachment to the body and there may be unpleasant consequences, even if dropped from a small height, i.e. it will simply bounce off. However, the lower end is covered with rubber; so that if the attack befalls on that part … do not worry, nothing may happen. The apparatus is assembled (even our engineering sample) fine, no backlashes, scripts, and other problems with the case.
The MicroUSB connector is located on the left end and at the same time it is a connector for the charger. At the other end of the same left end is located a universal 3.5 mm jack for connecting the headset.
The right end is equipped in a standard way – the start key and key of the work with the camera (horizontal direction) and two volume keys.

Display
When it comes to the camera, the question of the quality of the display is at the forefront. Many phones from Motorola wgich we have tested had good screens, but on the background of the competitors they looked rather pale. In the case of the ZN5 things are much better, the model is equipped with a display that was performed on TFT-technology, has a diagonal of 2.4 inches (resolution of 240 x 320) and displays up to 260 thousand colors.
The screen showed a good result in operation – good color rendition, brightness and viewing angles allow to work comfortably in almost any conditions. All, without exception, users will appreciate the availability of a very large font in the menu (by the way, the display shows up to eight lines of text plus the three office ones).
Unfortunately, the ZN5 is not a smart-phone and we cannot fully enjoy the capabilities of the screen (e.g., movies), but it is not useless to say again that for the set functions of the phone the display is sufficient.

Keyboard
The main part is made of a polymer film. In other words, the mechanical keys are closed with the film, with the result that an effect of single array is achieved. This looks really interesting, and the work, despite the innovation, is rather middling.
Only the circular navigation button is allocated on the general background. It has a 4-position activation of features with the function of the confirmation in the center. Soft keys are located between the navigation key and the traditional “tubes”. Critically small space is left for them. No, it is not that false abrasions occur all the time, but such a positive trick causes a series of inconveniences. Under the soft keys are two additional buttons. The first is to access the gallery, the second – to delete characters.
The digital keyboard is of a standard size. Keys are at a decent distance from each other – to dial a telephone number or type an SMS is easy.
However, it is desirable to press the keys at the right angles, but it does not cause additional inconvenience, you have only to get used to it.
In the camera mode the digital keys have additional abilities (they are marked on the shell). For example, you can quickly send a photo to an online gallery, remove or, on the contrary, save the resulting image.

Menu and Functions
First it is desirable to note that in our test the engineering model was activated, in which many of the functions worked as they should.
The model is built on a platform of LJ (the closest relative of Motorola ROKR E8). On the fine-tuning of this interface the company has spent a long time, but, honestly speaking, the result is not cheering. The menu is quite difficult to master even for the over-experienced journalists (a fact generally accepted by the press), not to speak of ordinary consumers.
And many of the complexities and conditionalities could have been completely avoided, but Motorola always had a distinguished vision of the ergonomics of the phones (remember the red “tube” on the left side, only recently moved to its rightful place).
The phone has basic functions, without which a mobile phone is not taken seriously. This includes: Bluetooth (A2DP profile), a powerful web browser, FM-radio and a media player. The interesting additions include the availability of Wi-Fi, TV-output (the cable is included).

As you can see, the phone is sufficiently stuffed with all necessary facilities. Unfortunately, the ZN5 is not a smart-phone, and its functions of expansion are severely limited.
The presence of the graffiti Kodak in the ZN5 – is not just a decoy for a trustful buyer. The developments of that company are used in their entirety. By the way, the Kodak gallery allows you to quickly send photos via e-mail or post them in the Internet. The feature Kodak Perfect Touch is also available from the gallery; it allows to significantly improving the display of the captured material. Well, and the function Kodak Easy share Software will allow you to print photos directly from your phone, bypassing the computer. And this is without speaking about the camera and its capabilities.
Summarizing the functional outcome it may be noted that the ZN5 has all necessary facilities. The overall result was somewhat spoilt by the difficulty in dealing with individual elements of the menu. But as is it usually the case – the process of familiarization takes time.

Camera
Open the cover, in a second the camera is activated, and already in three or four seconds, it takes the white balance. By the way, the machine is rarely wrong, that allows for good shots without preparation.
The interface is like that of the model ROKR E8 – a line of information above, translucent windows of menu, produced by pressing the left key content.
It is easy to deal with the settings, but they are not many either. An interesting fact – the camera can save images in the uncompressed RAW format, which is obviously cool, but in a phone it is meaningless. Typically, this format is used by professional photographers, working with serious cameras.
Now let’s talk about recording abilities. The unit is equipped with a Xenon (pulse) flash and an autofocus lamp light, which is quite powerful. Autofocus is slow in the dark (the lamp helps to focus), but at the same time does not make mistakes.

The focus could not be called quick with good lighting either, but it might be the problem of our test sample. The camera has a “red” eye reduction, when half a second before the main flash blinks the lighting of the autofocus.
How such a system works, is known from compact cameras, so it only should be noted that in the ZN5 it more or less copes with its task.
A macro-mode is supported; in our sample, however, it did not work well, so close-up photographs of flowers and other such pretty things failed. The camera can record videos in the ridiculous resolution of 144h176, so the opportunity is not worth to be considered even as fun. The panoramic shooting mode (gluing of three frames) is implemented in a normal way – with the help of the framework, the camera tells when to make the next frame for gluing.

Outcome
Against the background of the other camera-phones, Motozine ZN5 is not only lost, but is highlighted with a number of fundamentally interesting features. It is just enough to remember the 350 MB internal memory (even up to 4 GB on the cards microSD, and a 512 MB card in the kit), the excellent camera from Kodak, and it is clear that Motorola has come to the market fairly prepared.
The pre-installed Li-Ion battery of the capacity of 950 mAh, according to the manufacturer, provides up to 350 minutes of talking time and up to 350 hours in standby mode. In the reality of Moscow networks, the ZN5 worked 3 days (until 30 minutes of conversation and an hour of use of other functions), which is an outstanding result.
For people who need a relatively small, modern telephone and who are not afraid of the “menu from Motorola”, the model ZN5 will be a great solution.

Appearance
Samsung i8510 INNOV8 is designed, of course, for men. You can paint it pink or red, but it will remain a toy for big boys. The big, hard slider with a decent thickness will protrude from any pocket except, of course, a winter jacket. But now the season is not suitable for such a warm clothing.
The upper end has a lug for the strap, but it is unlikely that someone will want to hang this device on his neck because of its massive weight. Samsung i8510 INNOV8 fully occupies the palm and lies on it like a glove.
Even in the expanded form the unit is comfortable to hold in hand, despite the considerable size of the smart phone.
The tube edges look rich. On the right there are the camera buttons, the mechanical key for selecting shooting modes / log in to gallery, as well as the slot for memory cards. On the left side – the connector for the charger/cable, the 3.5-mm input for the headphones, the sound adjustment button.
On the reverse side we see the most interesting – the volumetric pedestal for the camera lens and the location of the flash gave the impression that we have a camera, not a phone.
It is clear that this is exactly what the developers had in their mind, and they got it. On the side of the lens there is a polyphonic speaker slot, which is quickly stuffed with dust.

The lid covering the battery is made of metal.
Samsung i8510 INNOV8 opens easily, the slider mechanism works fine, taking up the upper half of the shell on halfway. No criticism to the quality of assembly, as well as to the materials used, everything is at the highest level. Interestingly, the tube is successfully composed of various materials – three types of plastic, and this is without mentioning the metal lid and the tracings of the perimeter of the upper lid.
We have long been accustomed to the appearance of Samsung keyboards. And here we have a single plate with symbols that are separated by four horizontal engravings.
It is convenient to dial or type an SMS-message; girls with long fingernails have not expressed any discontent. Key management is not so convenient, but errors are rare. The confirmation button (located in the centre of navigation keys) can perform the role of a sensory touchpad. It can move silently in the menu, as well as in various applications. Moreover, if you get tired of it, it can be turned off. The lighting is bright, and you always see well the symbols on the buttons.

Display
The display with a diagonal of 2.8 inches is frankly good. Its merit is that it is big, bright, does not distort the color of the uploaded images and has an ultra fine grain.
The disadvantage is, perhaps, one – decent image fading in the sun, which, incidentally, is typical for most TFT-displays. When you walk in the street, you have to cover it with your hand, but sometimes it is inconvenient. But the fact that the screen has a little lag was good. After working with the i8510
several days and comparing it with other devices, we came to the conclusion that the screen of Samsung, is one of the best on the market, and you just can not help but like it.
From the perspective of an ordinary user, the menu is perfectly executed, that means – nothing superfluous, but simple, clear and understandable. Yes, and you can see for yourself, how the graphical shell, under which the popular OS S60 is “hidden”, looks. In our sample, there were three themes; in addition, you can change the appearance of the call line, the rapid application in the main menu.

Unfortunately, we could not scroll the names of the items that did not fit into the screen, but the font under the name “Normal” can be described as fairly large.
useful applications are preinstalled in the memory, including a PDF reader, the application QuickOffice, IP-Dialers Fring, the application for Blogging LifeDiary.
Of course, you can set “Yandex-map”, or anything else, the possibilities for installations are large.
The Wi-Fi in this model works without any problems and artful settings. The INNOV8 connected with any access points, in the office, in department stores, at home.
The exception was just the terrible Chinese device ZTE ZXDSL 531V for the network “Stream”, which our phone was unable to pick up.
Surfing on the web with the built-in browser is also not straining for fans of mobile Internet (everything is handy and works as expected), but I, personally, prefer to view pictures and read news from the large screen of PC.

GPS
This is not the first mobile handset from Samsung, with an integrated GPS-receiver; for example, the recently released G810 is also equipped with a GPS-chip. Our model i8510 was not the most sensitive receiver and could not catch the satellites, where the navigators Mio H610, GSmart or the communicator Samsun”deafness” to satellites, particularly in the car or not in a very dense forest.
In an open field (in the open) the “cold” start was 4 minutes, the “hot” start about 1.5 minutes. It is also worth noting the excellent work of the receiver outside the city, where there are no high buildings.
For the purposes of navigation the memory has two preset programs – Route 66 and Google Maps. If the first has no maps of Moscow and the region, the second, as it is known, loads data via GPRS or Wi-Fi (if there is an access point). By the way, you should keep in mind that it literally eats up traffic, because only the scaled maps consume from 170 to 220 KB. This should be remembered, when in roaming, even nationally. Also, do not expect a good drawing of maps if you are away from major cities. For example, I was personally surprised by a non-existent road, and an absence bridge over the Volga, which were present on the map, but otherwise everything is fine.

Camera
A cool camera is the main zest of the model, and even more so because the picture resolution is quite serious – 8 MT. This draws the attention of anyone who takes the smart phone in his hands. Also, many have noticed that, a LED is installed in the model, but not a powerful xenon flash. So this source of light is sometimes not enough, and after using the Motorola ZN5 with Xenon flash, it was necessary to get quickly used to the fact that to shoot in a dark room from a distance of 3 meters is not possible, here the distance is reduced to half a meter. It should be noted that sometimes when shooting with the flash the image is slightly blurred. Summing up a micro-outcome, we should say that the flash will be useful for illumination of any object, for example, when shooting in the shade or in the gloomy weather.
The interface of the photo supplement is an already known form other tubes of Samsung, for example, the model G810, the review of which can be read here. The opportunities and the modes the camera provides can be seen in the screenshots. It should be noted that to work with (manage) the camera is very convenient, because the settings do not have to be “dug” out of the menu, as you need only to click the left context button and you will see windows settings appearing above.
The camera offers a number of presets (scenes), such as the “Sport”, “Indoor”, “Beach”, “Sunset”, etc. You can use them, though they affect the result, but not negatively. They should be tried as an experiment.
It requires 2.5-3 seconds to focus the camera, depending on lighting conditions. Sometimes the unit would not be focused at the first try and we had to press “on” again.
But the most important is the quality of images. They are easier to evaluate with the help of test photos. Personally I was very pleased with the results.

The player / radio
Another important part of the Samsung i8510 is the player. In contrast to the praised Walkman devices from Sony Ericsson, the Korean developers have taken the pains to set in the tube a standard plug for headphones, even though on the left edge (it would be easier on the top). Below you see the appearance of the interface of the device. I think that the design is strict, but with taste.
Also note the presence of 17 preset equalizer settings, including options for 3D-sound. You can choose from three proposed visualizations, of course there is a detailed assortment of music that is standard for all manufacturers of music devices.

The quality of the sound, using good Sony headphones is great! The unit “handles” the full range of frequencies without any problems; the ears do not feel any distortion, noise, and other such things. The sound is brilliant, rich, natural. In the memory of the tube (do not forget about the 8 GB built-in memory and the support of microSD cards), were downloaded well digitalized tracks. Well-known compositions sounded easily, somewhat airy, and frankly, there was no wish to take off the headphones.
The FM-radio has good sensitivity and a decent volume. Up to 50 stations can be stored in the memory with the opportunity to give them names.
Among the innovations is the possibility to record with the radio. Files in MP4 format (why not MP3?) with unchangeable bitrate of 192 Kb/s are stored in the phone memory or on the expansion cards.
The recording quality is good, but it certainly depends on the quality of reception of a particular station.

Outcome
Samsung i8510 INNOV8 is a truly innovative device. The unit has all the necessary functions. Of course, the recommended price of 24 thousand roubles will scare many, but those who want the most advanced smart phone to date, are unlikely to find this amount exaggerated. In technical terms the device is wonderful, it is easy to manage, easy to use every day, one really wants to use it. There is one minus – energy consumers (GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, camera, large display), with not the most intensive work discharge the battery of the tube in one day. But as you know, this problem is usually solved, by something as an additional car charger. In all the rest the INNOV8, without reservation, is a device worthy of your choice.

Like the U800, Samsung i7110 is partly made of metal – the front panel and keyboard, and the lid of the battery compartment. This gives the device a solid and slightly unkempt appearance. The point is that after one-week exploitation the back cover was covered with a web of small scratches and this with careful use.
And with each passing day scratches are multiplied. This contradicts the idea that metal creates the impression of a “reliable and stylish” tube.
The device is made of a soft-touch plastic, which is perfectly compatible with the metal. The quality of the assembly does not cause issues – no cracks, no gaps, the details fit together perfectly. Samsung i7110 leaves the impression of a good- quality, expensive, competitive phone.

On the left lies the end of the volume swing as well as a universal connector, closed with a shifting bolt.
On the right – the memory card slot, the key of quick launch of applications, the camera key. As shown in the picture, the keys are of a decent size, easy to press on the go.
The upper end is the eyelet for the strap. A 3.5 jack for connecting headphones would also be to the point here, but alas, it is missing there, as well as in other parts of the tube.
Above the display are housed the compact thin strip of the speaker and the camera for video phoning.

Keyboard
The keyboard is an inherited legacy from the model U800, except for the modified content buttons and the confirmation key.
The point is that in the novelty a so-called touch-sensitive infrared touchpad is used (optical joystick). By moving the finger on its surface, you can move the cursor to the Internet browser, or go from one menu to another. To confirm your choice you simply need to click on this key.
Frankly, there is no need for a partly touch-management. Indeed, sometimes it even prevents navigation – the finger hits the magic key and the cursor moves involuntarily. However, the sensitivity can be adjusted in a wide range, or the optical joystick can simply be disabled.

The modified contextual keys can be seen in the illustration to the U800.
The difference is obvious. Of course, the i7110 is a smart phone and it simply needs an extra key, but it doesn’t make the matter easier for the owner of this tube.
As a result, it appears that the close-fitting keys increase the chance of accidental clicks, even among experienced users. So, instead of displaying on the screen the list of dialed numbers, the “Menu” button was constantly hit, and instead of getting into contacts the “c” button was often pressed, and a lot more to that effect. After a week of use some skill with those buttons was acquired, but to call them convenient is not possible.
The tactile, 4-position key of management, however, is comfortable you can work with it blindly actually.
The lighting of the milky white color is perfectly visible in any situation – to dial a number or write an SMS in the dark will not be difficult.

Display
The novelty has a display based on OLED-technology, instead of the usual TFT-display.
This is evident from the first seconds of acquaintance – the screen wallpaper is unusually bright, colors are intense and the contrast of the image is high. Frankly speaking, the picture even cuts eyes a little, especially at dusk or in a semi-lighted space. However, we have safeguarded large viewing angles and good resistance to the direct rays of sun – the image almost does not fade, all the icons and text are easily readable. Incidentally, the size of the screen is sufficient for most tasks, such as – the menu, internet, photos, and navigation.

Menu
Large icons or a list, well-distinguishable font (three sizes to choose from), three pre-set posters. In addition, the user is free to choose among the three suggested types of reflection of the so-called standby mode. In its two options a streak of five or six functions for shortcuts appears on the display.
In general, the menu is user-friendly, everything is logical and defaults are normally configured. In addition, let us not forget that additional themes can be downloaded from the Internet to adjust the smart phone to your liking.

Communications
The novelty can be connected to other devices via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or via USB-port.
The speed of file transfer via Bluetooth is 70-75 Kb / s, so via the “blue tooth”, you can transfer music to the i7110 or you can use a BT-headset for listening. That is what we did by connecting a good and inexpensive device – Stereo South Wing SA505.
A few words should be said about the accessory itself. The quality of the manufacture of the accessory is high; the plastic pleases the eye and is not erased after two weeks of use.
Among the merits we would like to mention the sound quality, decent working hours without recharging. Among the shortcomings are – the somewhat ascetic appearance of the management, among which the slider of the power on/off has a particularly poor look. So, with the SA505 the Samsung smart phone worked as expected – connected automatically after the activation, the sound was not interrupted no criticism to the sound quality.
The Wi-Fi is more than workable – it clung to free hot-spots confidently, with the office wireless (with password) local it also worked well, however, it took terribly long to enter the 14-digit password.
When connecting to a PC not only your phone memory is visible (about 65 MB) but also the memory of the expansion card, so it is more convenient to throw over the capacity content by using the cable.

Camera
A 5 IP module is installed in the new model, which already “lighted up” in some models of the tubes from Samsung.
The horizontally oriented graphic interface is friendly, you can see in the screenshots, though.
The features and the functionality of the camera are not bad, they have enough storage for most users.
And again the on-board features are evident on the illustrations.
Among the useful features is the function of determining people, which in most cases works correctly. The mode of “snapshot smiles” is also a treat, but there is no special need for it – the focus of the face is always done correctly, and the smile is a private matter.

Macro shooting is possible from a distance of 3 mm from the object, the camera focuses quickly, and it is rarely wrong in the assessment of distance.

The record of geo-marks (the data is taken from GPS-receiver) will also be useful when afterwards you’ll want to use Google Maps to find where it was shot on the map.
The LED flash is not weak and not powerful, something in between, it cannot be counted on, it just is.
The quality of images is at a decent level, but still far away from ideal.

Music
The MP3-player of this model resembles that of Samsung INNOV8, with the proviso to minor cosmetic changes in the interface.
As in the already mentioned model, the user has a choice of three types of visualization; display of album covers is
supported. 17 audio blanks (EQs), including 3D-sound, are pre-installed, plus you can create your own settings, using eight lanes.
The device plays music well, however, the volume leaves much to be desired, because even with the tested set headphones, the music is not heard in the subway, and the volume is poor in other noisy places.
It is possible not only to play music through the BT-headset, but to broadcast songs on a regular radio through a built-FM-transmitter, only this time will have to disconnect your headphones.
However, you will not hear anything through the external speaker either, because in this mode, it also switches off.
The FM-transmitter has a weak power, and the smart phone actually will have to be put closer to the receiver, otherwise instead of music you will hear only a hiss from the speakers. Therefore, as in the devices of Nokia, the need for such a chip (meaning the transmitter) is reduced to zero.
The radio disappoints with its low sensitivity, because a lot of stations had interferences, which was in a ratio of 14 noises in the 25 found.
In addition to automatic settings, the desired frequency can be entered manually. By the way, the memory of the Samsung is for 50 stations, which is enough even for the over-loaded Moscow broadcasting.
If you liked any song aired on the radio, the song can be saved (recorded) in the memory in the format of MP3. Then, you can listen to it at any time, using the MP3-player.

GPS
Everybody has become little by little accustomed to the fact that many phones have a GPS-navigation. So in the i7110 too there is a built-in receiver and pre-set navigation software Route66 from the company Navteq. The program is well known form Nokia and Samsung devices, and the fact that it requires payment is probably known to many as well.
As an alternative there is the free Google Maps, which, though, consumes a lot of traffic for downloading maps and ranging. The cold start of the receiver was 4 minutes, while the «hot» one took 20-30 seconds; at the exit from a tunnel the satellites were found in some 10-15 seconds. The receiver sensitivity is the same as in the communicator Samsung WiTu, i.e., to speak clearly – it was good. On the open ground you can see 8-10 satellites, and by the window at the 7th floor, in case of a clear horizon – 4-5 satellites.
There is a minus though – when the GPS is on the battery discharges at high speeds, so the navigator of the i7110 can hardly be used as a pedestrian, and for a car, too, the novelty is hardly suitable – the diagonal of the display is small.

Outcome
The functionality of the new model is not very ggod, but quite adequate for a wide range of users, who will need to enhance the ability of the tube later. Of the minuses the absence of a standard audio jack must be mentioned, uncomfortable and not really necessary optical joystick, short time of autonomous work (not only with the GPS) in general, and of course the problematic keys of navigation.
But, as a whole, Samsung i7110 is a good machine and leaves a pleasant impression. It is possible, that one should get used to it at first, then fall in love with it, and in the future – just use it, not paying attention to different things, spoiling life.
