Strange things take place in the kingdom of Sony Ericsson. Having developed a good platform, the company washes everything on its way in search of gold nuggets. If you want to buy an inexpensive, but functional Sony Ericsson of clamshell format, you will inevitably find yourself in the fork of choice – W710i or Z710i? Let’s discuss everything together.

Design
The first thing that the manufacturer has changed, separating device into “music” and “normal” is a color solution. This is perhaps the weakest point of Z710i. Walkman was painted in the standard for the brand colors: gray, white and orange. Version Z tries to look stern, but without wearing expensive “clothes”.
When you look at Sony Ericsson Z710i, you want to compare it with a luxury Korean car, especially for the domestic market. Yes, they are made good, sometimes even cute, but in the background of the Europeans they seem to be a rattle. In other words Z710i was born as a Walkman, and plastic surgery wasn’t very successful. If we consider Z version separately from W, the image becomes less dark, but it is not still colorful to call Z710i a beautiful phone. It is difficult even to say that the model is not to the point: antenna, chrome, blue backlighting of the keyboard, or all together.
The hallmark antenna-arc in Sony Ericsson Z710i looks absolutely ridiculous. Imagine Maybach 62 with spoiler “dream watermelon Baron”, and you will feel the comic structure.
You will get used to design features, but I don’t think that it will be interesting for you to get used to the screaming colors. How I love the orange color, however, it is very eccentric for everyday devices such as mobile phone. But perhaps this is a matter of taste.

Display
Almost all the rest, the model Z and W are similar to each other that will not prevent us through this maze. External displays are identical, both phones have 1.5 inches (128×128 pixels), which look very solid, especially considering the amount of shell – 88x48x24, 5mm.
Small screen and monochrome models are distinguished by the fact that in Z series supports 4 shades of gray, and W has the same, but with an orange backlight.
The internal display does not produce such a favorable impression as the front one; its dimensions are quite standard – 1.9 inch (176×220 pixels). The TFT-display shows up to 262 thousand colors.
Display has ideal contrast and sharp, with excellent viewing angles. The quality of the screen is comparable with the older models of the company, and in their price range if not given something supernatural, then, at least, nothing inferior to the best representatives of the market.

Keyboard
On other side of the external display there are keys to work with MP3-player in the closed position. Actually the huge display is enough to work with the player. The left side is a place for keys which activate the camera (in the closed position it does not work) and paired “rocker” to adjust the volume.
When the phone is closed, the “minus” shows planned for the current affairs events, and if you click the plus sign, then the important information is displayed by phone: profile, your contacts, and battery power in percentage ( convenient and accurate).
On the right end there are keys which are responsible for locking the phone when it is closed.
With characteristic click, opening the phone, we’ll see buttons – big and small. All of them separately or together are already familiar.
Standard handsets there, took their place, two soft keys, an excellent job with their roles. Below there is a key “return” and “C”. The entire keyboard is made in typical Sony Ericsson style. And only navigational key somehow gets out of the context, W710i, definitely looks more organic. Numeric keys are medium in size, but due to the division into three blocks and a clear course to work with text, or simply dial the number comfortably.

MP3-player
With all the similarities and differences, consumers are interested in one thing – music features. Engineers went to indirect ploys that artificially divided the model. So in Z710i there is no profile A2DP, which puts an end to stereo Bluetooth-headsets.
Thus, the player is simplified, but not fatal.
Yes, a little about the FM-radio. With it we understand what praise for the quality of reception and ease of use is.
The main difference will be the headset. In W710i there is a stereo headset HPM-65, while Z710i has only HPM-60. During the test, I stepped on the Headset HPM-70, which fell out from somebody’s pocket, as the number of citizens in a narrow street, I did my best to return it to its rightful owner but I couldn’t. Since both models have a standard connector Fast Port so we tested with the headset of Z710i.
The output will not be comforting for the Walkman, with a good headset Z710i is not inferior to his brother in terms of musical sound and plays a couple of specific functions.

Multimedia
In this regard, telephones Z and W differ only by a lack of the first section of Fitness and all that is associated with it. Otherwise, as you know, there are no changes. Both phones support EDGE, Bluetooth (2.0, EDR, but without A2DP in Z version), Infrared, Java, themes, radio, powerful organizer and other functions of a modern phone. Both devices also have the support of Memory Stick Micro (M2) card.
Here lies the second major difference in W710i it has only 64MB. Hot-swappable memory card is not provided; it is implemented in the “warm” form. When changing the memory card you have to remove the battery cover.
Internal memory is 10 MB. As before, the device provides a convenient work with files of phone card, or simultaneously with all together.
Another distinctive feature of Sony Ericsson phones has become a function of multitasking. Player, games, calculator – all these and many other applications can run together.
Organizer and work with contacts are made on a solid top five.

Camera
Cameras in phones differ only in the presence of the mirror at Z version. All other features are standard for phones of this class. CMOS, 2 megapixel, autofocus and the lack of an acceptable quality of images, 2.5-fold-digital zoom. Maximum resolution of the image is 1600×1200 pixels, the average size photo is about 400 Kb. It has standard settings like white balance, and a few simple effects.

Video can be recorded in high quality and for MMS which means the resolution at 176×144 and 128×96 pixels, respectively.

Conclusion
As you can see, the differences between W710i and Z710i are cosmetic, just for a marketing purpose. Today the difference between a Walkman and Z is about 2000 rubles. For this money you can still easily buy a 512MB memory card and a good headset like HPM-70. This is in case you need something not orange, but the extent of solid music phone. Our sample even though it was an engineering one, worked very steadily.
710i is equipped with a Li-Pol battery with capacity of 900 mAh that’s just supports the work of up to 3 days in the active mode without problems, but if you choose the mode with disabled GPRS-module, then up to 5 days.
As a result, we have two absolutely equivalent apparatus. Choose with eyes, most of the major differences can be easily compensated.

Philips continues to produce more mobile phones of its famous line Xenium. The list of models is already so extensive that only the last two phones are held in the memory; however, the replenishment can not be avoided. So, meet this new Philips Xenium 9@9h.

Design
Xenium 9@9h retained the general features of design, characteristic of “literal” clamshells of Series 9@9 – compactness, light weight, easy to use and nice looking shell shape.
The cover of Xenium 9@9h leans with one hand, but there is not an automatic closer, as in many modern phones, therefore, certain dexterity of fingers to the owner of the mobile phone will have to be demonstrated in any case. But the sides of the shell are made of a slightly rough plastic, which helps easily to hold the phone in hand.
The battery lid, on the contrary, is very slippery and thin. In addition, it is clearly recorded a tight clasp, excluding backlash.

Made at the outer surface of the housing, the connector to connect the USB cable and the slot for the dynamics of polyphony has no protection, which raises legitimate concerns, especially given the fact that the speaker is placed in a very unusual place – in the upper end of the tube.
Frightening to think what might happen if someone tries to talk on the phone under the rain, not even the strong one.

Keyboard
The keyboard of Xenium 9@9h is pseudo-sensor, i.e. with a minimum speed buttons. And of course, it has both advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages, in fact, are purely aesthetic: Yes, the phone looks very stylish, it disguises its budget nature and nothing more. But typing on the keyboard, even if it is sufficiently broad to which the boundaries between the buttons can be discerned only after long training, and it is very inconvenient, there is no any “save” button.
In addition, the buttons seem to be too tight, although it is a matter of habit.

DisplayThe main goal that the developers of Xenium phones set themselves is the maximum battery life, so in this line of clamshells outer screen is either completely absent or replaced by a simple monochrome. In the case of the Xenium 9@9h, we have seen enough of the original decision. There is no external display on this phone. Instead, the outer cover is made of a dark plastic panel hiding 4 LEDs that show several states of the phone: entering a new text message, incoming / outgoing calls, the charging process.

The photo shows that you have a fresh SMS-SC and there is a missed call.
The main screen, is a real TFT-display, although not too large (128×160 pixels), with a noticeable grain, but generally provides acceptable image quality, including bright daylight.
In text mode screen is placed on five lines – more or less sufficient to draw or read a short message.

Options
A significant advantage of Xenium 9 @ 9h is a decent set of installed software, at least compared with previous models from this line. From business applications in the phone there is a calculator with the same nice GUI, as in the younger models. However, given the previously described problems with the keyboard input Xenium 9@9h, it is difficult to say whether this interface is tied to a navigation key.
In the functional set there is also a currency converter (maybe once developers figure it out replace it with a full-fledged universal converter units), clock with world time, alarm clock with three custom slot, voice recorder (maximum duration of one record is 12 minutes).

There is also a personal organizer with three viewing modes and three types of insertion events. Different sounds can be attached to events, as well as specify the regularity of recurrence – from daily to annual.
The notebook of Xenium 9@9h, on the contrary, is functionally very poor. It holds a thousand entries, each of which can store up to three different fields, conventionally marked as a phone number, fax number and IP-phone client. No additional fields. There is no opportunity to create groups of contacts, or the appointment of individual calls to individual contacts.

In Xenium 9@9h there is an FM-radio, and in the sales package you can find a good headset, serving as an antenna. It’s nice, because not every budget phone boasts about advanced multimedia capabilities.
But another problem emerges: the phone doesn’t play MP3-files! All that you can play with the tube (it is not even a player as a separate program) is midi, and AMR-files.
In Xenium 9@9h there is only 3 MB memory, and it does not support a memory card.

Conclusion
What I did not like in Xenium 9@9h is lack of functionality at the hardware level. Even as a budget model, the phone can not offer its users neither built-in camera, or wireless communication via Bluetooth. Given the penny cost of the two modules, we are inclined to believe that this restriction is not enforced due to the cost of production, as dictated by the positioning of Xenium 9@9h merely as a budget model, mimic a more serious mobile tool. Well, if the tube is designed to compete with Nokia 1100, then it has a good chance of winning.
On the other side Xenium 9@9h is equipped with long-life batteries and rather good design. Indeed, batteries, of Philips mobile phone beat all possible records, but how long this figure can persuade mobile users to give up opportunities that their comrades have grown accustomed for a long period of time?

One year after successfully launching the X830 swivel handset, Samsung upgrades the line of the handsets that mix MP3 player functions with those of a standard GSM mobile phone. The new addition to the lineup has been branded as Samsung SGH-F210. Despite the fact that it kept the same design as its X830 predecessor, F210 has been improved in many ways that have been thought almost impossible for that time. Samsung also managed to keep the device small enough, so it can be used as a dedicated MP3 player with ease. The successful blend between 2 different devices (MP3 and mobile phone) will always be in high demand on the market, so either you like it or not, Samsung’s innovative ideas will still have lots of fans.

Design
Samsung SGH-F210 looks exactly like a chocolate bar. All shiny and very well polished, the device attracts looks only in a minute. If you keep it closed, others can easily take it as a good looking MP3 player, but they’re in for a big surprise. The moment you swivel the small device and put it to your ear, it will suddenly change into a small stylish mobile phone. One handed handling is much easier for right-handers, as the phone swivels to the left. It’s a little bit troubling for left-handers, but I’m sure they’ll get used to it pretty fast. When closed, the candy-bar form factor of the handset stirs one’s imagination. The small screen on the front part of the phone only displays the MP3 plater interface, which can be controlled very easily with the big wheel that you see in the pictures.

Commands like forward, back, stop or pause are only a touch away, as the wheel can be pressed. The Hold button placed on the right side of the phone will help users avoid starting the MP3 player when they aren’t aware. The left side of the phone features only a dual volume key. The bottom of the phone is detachable, so that the headset that comes in the sales package can be attached. The same port can also be used to synchronize the phone with any PC or simply to charge it. There’s no need to detach the whole bottom part of the phone in case you need to charge the phone, you will only need to open the plastic plug-in that covers the port. Obviously, on the back of the phone you’ll find the 2 Megapixel camera, which doesn’t feature any flash capabilities. There’s no external speaker, the music can only be heard through the in-call speaker.

When the MP3/phone is swiveled, it reveals a standard keypad with big enough keys. The difference between the older X830 and F210 model is that the latter has the keypad divided onto 3 rows. The X830 had a 2-row keypad, which was a little bit weird to use. This has been corrected, so you can dial numbers as with any other standard handset. Besides the usual keys, there are 2 more contextual keys, the C key used like a Delete key and a Camera key, which suggests that you cannot use the phone’s camera unless the handset is swiveled. At the base of the keys you’ll notice a small gap where the microphone has been placed. There are definitely big improvements compared with Samsung’s X830 model, but there are also some things that remained the same or worse.
The screen embedded on both devices is the same small display that doesn’t enable users to read the entire menu, not to mention that anyone interested in browsing the Internet will have big issues when trying to read any page displayed. Even if the phone may look a little bit flimsy at a first glance, I have used the phone for almost 3 weeks and the swiveling mechanism didn’t showed any sign of ‘weakness’. Perhaps in time it will ‘collapse’, but I don’t intend to use it more, so I can’t really say for sure. Anyway, its size (87.8 x 31 x 20.5 mm) and weight (72 grams including battery) recommends Samsung F210 both as an MP3 player and a mobile phone.

Display and Camera
Samsung F210 features a TFT display (128 x 220 pixels resolution) supporting 262k colors. The screen is great in terms of quality, but in truth it fails to help the user as it is way too small. Just like its X830 predecessor, Samsung’s F210 display measures around 1.5 inch, which is not enough to display the whole menu, so you’ll be forced to wait for any writing displayed to scroll from left to right to really understand what’s written. The problem is even bigger when you want to play a game, navigate on the Internet or even write a SMS message. If these don’t bother you, then you’ll sure like F210′s display.

The small camera module integrated on the back of the phone is a little bit low on performance. Don’t expect too much from it, and don’t try to use it with the phone closed because you can’t. It will also be difficult to preview anything you’ll want to shoot, because of the small screen. Either you won’t be able to see everything displayed or the preview will simply be too small for you to understand what’s really there. There are some settings that can be used to increase the quality of the snapshots: Effects (Black and White, Negative, Sepia, Emboss, Sketch and Moonlight), White balance (Incandescent, Fluorescent, Cloudy and Daylight), Timer and Frames.

There are also some modes (Single shot, Multi-shot and Mosaic shot) that can be used. The maximum size of the pictures is the usual 1600 x 1200 pixels resolution, while clips can be recorded using 352 x 288 pixels resolutions CIF.

Communications

Samsung F210 is GPRS (Class 10, 32 – 48 kbps) and EDGE (Class 10, 236.8 kbps) compatible, which is more than enough to satisfy any user needs. It is also compatible with Bluetooth 2.0 A2DP and USB 2.0 features for high speed data transfer.
I have to say that everything related to data transfer, Internet surfing is working ‘mildly’, as in ‘mediocre’. It also fully supports SMS, EMS, Email, MMS, but small screen will probably make owners use its messaging capabilities less than normal.
The triband (GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900) network compatible handset has a mediocre GSM signal reception. Instead, the sound is very clear, but medium in terms of loudness (only level 7 volume). I have experienced terrible sound only when the signal reception was weak, but overall it has good GSM capabilities.

MP3 player

Samsung’s swivel has been especially designed as an MP3 player, so we should expect many multimedia ‘goodies’. Unfortunately, I couldn’t understand why Samsung hadn’t put in an external speakerphone, especially since it is said to feature 3D sound.
All the vibes that you hear are coming through the in-call speaker, but even so, the sound is clear and superior to many other music dedicated mobile phones. The headset that comes with the phone aren’t the best, but the sound it delivers is surely above average. Interesting vision from Samsung, it’s like you have two different devices stuck together. When closed, you can use the MP3 player (MP3, WMA, AAC, AAC+ and eAAC+) or the FM radio, when swiveled, you can take advantage of the GSM capabilities.
No functions of either one work at the same time, so you should be aware that you won’t be able to run music in the background and access other application related to the phone. Music player and FM radio are both offering sound above average.

Conclusion
Samsung F210 doesn’t look like any other phone, because it looks like an MP3 player. The moment you swivel the handset, it really reveals its ‘WOW factor’. Anyway, youngsters are the only target that will buy the phone, as you cannot do any business related stuff with it. Looking more like a toy, Samsung F210 offers the innovation much needed when one tries to attract young people.
The best thing I have noticed with F210 is definitely related to its look. More than appealing, the phone doesn’t feel when you put it into your pocket, or carry it with you, just like an MP3 player. It has everything that a young person would want: music, big storage space, radio and camera. Combine all these with an easy to use interface and you have the optimal phone for youngsters.
Even for someone who is not interested too much in using the GSM capabilities of the phone, the small screen could be a big issue. Probably the battery is also a negative point, as it lasts only half of the time offered by these days dedicated music phones. The inability to install any 3rd party applications is also a big downside.

In 2006 Motorola began releasing a new line of MOTORIZR image sliders. The first was the model Z3, which is the first GSM-slider of the company. Great attention was paid to materials, as well as on internal functional filling which couldn’t make this mobile phone a bestseller. In early 2007, an updated model Z6 was launched. Now the phone is positioned as a musical image slider. And again – beautiful, functional, but unpopular. Till the end of 2007 an updated Z8 model released. In addition to black-and-green color it has Symbian UIQ platform and many other advantages.

Finally, there comes RIZR Z10 – an updated model of Z8 which has a more rigorous design. So let’s have a look at this novelty.

Design

With all of its non-standard (in a good sense of the word) design, Z8 had a very cool reception. Young people, to whom the acidic insert might come to taste, started criticizing the price of the device.

Speaking about its design, we can not accept the harsh brutality of the Staff. This feature is peculiar to many phones from Motorola. On the contrary, in an era when everything is “Slim, soft and low”, to have a heavy device in the hand during conversation is not very convenient.

Unfortunately, here come some disappointments. First of all the metallic color. The phone is entirely made of plastic.

The original arrangement of this new Z8 slider has not been modified. Moreover, the numbers did not differ from each other with designing elements, with the exception of the back side, which is caused by a more serious camera in RIZR Z10.

As in the previous model, the opening of the upper half is lifted under a small angle. This is definitely an interesting solution.

With regard to the process of opening / closing, despite the complex mechanism, to perform this operation you can either injure your finger in a special rubber stress below the display, or in the upper halves of the rib.

As for the remaining designing solutions they are acceptable, such as bolts on the rear lid. The size of the phone and the weight fit into the overall image due to the fact that the phone is large in order to work with it comfortably. In general, even in the pockets of jeans or trousers Z10 isn’t comfortable to carry. However, if once again we draw a parallel with the predecessor, the Z8 is 1.5 mm thinner and 5 grams lighter.

Display

Z10 is only a continuation of Z8 (in fact – an Update). Like Z8, it has a 2.2-inch TFT-display with QVGA-resolution (320 x 240 pixels) and supporting 16 million colors.

As in previous models, the screen does not have impressive specifications, but generally looks modern. Getting ahead, I will say that Z10, with its entire functions is a simple device poorly suited for multimedia.

Keyboard

Describing this phone’s keypad, we traditionally divide it into three units – nautical, digital, and additional keys. In the case of Z10 the navigation block is executed in classical style for this line. There is a 4-position button in the middle, two soft keys, two additional buttons (Menu / list of tasks and “back”), as well as standard “phone”.

The buttons are made of rubber, so pressing them is hard enough. That is, any action requires serious effort.

The second stage of our conversation will be about additional buttons. At the left end of the monoblock there are three buttons.

Two are responsible for the volume, and the third – for quick access to multimedia gallery. This is more than a controversial decision. You can easily get to the gallery through the menu and, yes, and you need it less frequently. Below there is a slot for memory cards. Suitable card format is microSD, up to 32 GB.

Right end is equipped with one button, which is responsible for the rapid launch of built-in camera. Here is the miniUSB connector, serves to connect the peripherals and the charging / docking to a PC.

All connectors are covered with plastic plugs, so the aerodynamics of the shell did not violate anything.

The digital keyboard brings controversial feelings. In principle, it has not changed since Z8.

All the keys are highlighted with pale green light, which is not very suitable for this device. Milky and white would be fine.

Features

As we have already noticed, the phone is built on Symbian 9.2 (Motorola Symbian UIQ 3.2). In fact it is a capricious platform which has little in common with the classic S60 from Nokia, and with UIQ from Sony Ericsson. As a result, all the charm of the smartphone as a multimedia device is reduced to 0.

First, it requires a very long download time. In order to switch the language from English into Russian (search for the notebook, or enter the address in the browser), you must enter the corresponding menu, select language, press “save”, then “use”, and only then get the desired result.

Almost every operation is perceived as a personal affront to the phone and requires a minimum double confirmation. For example, setting the alarm clock: you choose the time, say 9:00, press “save” and come out of the directory. In the morning, you get at 11:00, remembering that you have not clicked “use”.
However, the heavy menu is the only serious shortcoming of the phone. It is not just difficult to control; it is not suitable for everyday use.

From the additional features we can mention a list of supported formats, such as: AAC, AAC +, WAV, AMR NB, MP4, MP3, MIDI, WMA, MPEG4 (30 fps), H.263, H.264. Thus, the device is more than suitable for listening to music, and even for viewing videos. The player is quite suitable.

Regarding the possibility of connecting to other devices, you can use USB-cable or Bluetooth 2.0 (A2DP, AVRCP, DUN-GW, FTP, GAP, GAVDP, Headset-AG, HFP 1.5 AG, OPP-Client, OPP).

Camera

The camera is good. Basically the camera is the main difference of Z8 from the Z10. Thus, the latest has a 3.2-MP CMOS-matrix with autofocus and flash, and the opportunity to make up to three images per second.

The camera works in a horizontal mode, like Sony Ericsson. For the convenience of shooting the camera has a pre regime: “normal”, “indoor”, “street”, “Sport”, etc. There is not a very powerful LED flash (there is a regime of “red eye”). It has the following functions: color effects, white balance, sharpness, you can select the image quality and size. As you can see, it has a solid set of features.

Z10 has a 3,2 MP camera. The photos in good lighting are bright, juicy, but not ideal.
You can save the images in the internal memory (45 MB) and a memory card, moreover, the phone has a built in Photo Editor, so you can process the received pictures.

The modern phone should have a powerful battery. Battery 1130 mA • h (Li-Ion) is able to provide vital energy for needs of the phone up to 3 days.

Outcome

In a competitive market Z10 is largely inferior to the alternative proposals to price / capabilities and status of the device. If you want to stand out, then it is for you. The phone did not become popular and is quite rare. However, once again reiterate that this does not make Z10 a bad phone, it just has its own specifics.

Samsung i7110 tends to be compared with its “predecessor” Samsung U800. Since the 800 is a “simple” device with firmware, and the i7110 is a smart phone with all updates; the dimensions of the new model are larger. Primarily, it refers to the thickness – 9.9 mm the U800 and 13 mm the i7110. On the one hand, the difference is not great, on the other – it is noticeable, especially when you wear device in the pocket of trousers.

Like the U800, Samsung i7110 is partly made of metal – the front panel and keyboard, and the lid of the battery compartment. This gives the device a solid and slightly unkempt appearance. The point is that after one-week exploitation the back cover was covered with a web of small scratches and this with careful use.
And with each passing day scratches are multiplied. This contradicts the idea that metal creates the impression of a “reliable and stylish” tube.
The device is made of a soft-touch plastic, which is perfectly compatible with the metal. The quality of the assembly does not cause issues – no cracks, no gaps, the details fit together perfectly. Samsung i7110 leaves the impression of a good- quality, expensive, competitive phone.

On the left lies the end of the volume swing as well as a universal connector, closed with a shifting bolt.
On the right – the memory card slot, the key of quick launch of applications, the camera key. As shown in the picture, the keys are of a decent size, easy to press on the go.
The upper end is the eyelet for the strap. A 3.5 jack for connecting headphones would also be to the point here, but alas, it is missing there, as well as in other parts of the tube.
Above the display are housed the compact thin strip of the speaker and the camera for video phoning.

Keyboard
The keyboard is an inherited legacy from the model U800, except for the modified content buttons and the confirmation key.
The point is that in the novelty a so-called touch-sensitive infrared touchpad is used (optical joystick). By moving the finger on its surface, you can move the cursor to the Internet browser, or go from one menu to another. To confirm your choice you simply need to click on this key.
Frankly, there is no need for a partly touch-management. Indeed, sometimes it even prevents navigation – the finger hits the magic key and the cursor moves involuntarily. However, the sensitivity can be adjusted in a wide range, or the optical joystick can simply be disabled.

The modified contextual keys can be seen in the illustration to the U800.
The difference is obvious. Of course, the i7110 is a smart phone and it simply needs an extra key, but it doesn’t make the matter easier for the owner of this tube.
As a result, it appears that the close-fitting keys increase the chance of accidental clicks, even among experienced users. So, instead of displaying on the screen the list of dialed numbers, the “Menu” button was constantly hit, and instead of getting into contacts the “c” button was often pressed, and a lot more to that effect. After a week of use some skill with those buttons was acquired, but to call them convenient is not possible.
The tactile, 4-position key of management, however, is comfortable you can work with it blindly actually.
The lighting of the milky white color is perfectly visible in any situation – to dial a number or write an SMS in the dark will not be difficult.

Display
The novelty has a display based on OLED-technology, instead of the usual TFT-display.
This is evident from the first seconds of acquaintance – the screen wallpaper is unusually bright, colors are intense and the contrast of the image is high. Frankly speaking, the picture even cuts eyes a little, especially at dusk or in a semi-lighted space. However, we have safeguarded large viewing angles and good resistance to the direct rays of sun – the image almost does not fade, all the icons and text are easily readable. Incidentally, the size of the screen is sufficient for most tasks, such as – the menu, internet, photos, and navigation.

Menu
Large icons or a list, well-distinguishable font (three sizes to choose from), three pre-set posters. In addition, the user is free to choose among the three suggested types of reflection of the so-called standby mode. In its two options a streak of five or six functions for shortcuts appears on the display.
In general, the menu is user-friendly, everything is logical and defaults are normally configured. In addition, let us not forget that additional themes can be downloaded from the Internet to adjust the smart phone to your liking.

Communications
The novelty can be connected to other devices via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or via USB-port.
The speed of file transfer via Bluetooth is 70-75 Kb / s, so via the “blue tooth”, you can transfer music to the i7110 or you can use a BT-headset for listening. That is what we did by connecting a good and inexpensive device – Stereo South Wing SA505.
A few words should be said about the accessory itself. The quality of the manufacture of the accessory is high; the plastic pleases the eye and is not erased after two weeks of use.
Among the merits we would like to mention the sound quality, decent working hours without recharging. Among the shortcomings are – the somewhat ascetic appearance of the management, among which the slider of the power on/off has a particularly poor look. So, with the SA505 the Samsung smart phone worked as expected – connected automatically after the activation, the sound was not interrupted no criticism to the sound quality.
The Wi-Fi is more than workable – it clung to free hot-spots confidently, with the office wireless (with password) local it also worked well, however, it took terribly long to enter the 14-digit password.
When connecting to a PC not only your phone memory is visible (about 65 MB) but also the memory of the expansion card, so it is more convenient to throw over the capacity content by using the cable.

Camera
A 5 IP module is installed in the new model, which already “lighted up” in some models of the tubes from Samsung.
The horizontally oriented graphic interface is friendly, you can see in the screenshots, though.
The features and the functionality of the camera are not bad, they have enough storage for most users.
And again the on-board features are evident on the illustrations.
Among the useful features is the function of determining people, which in most cases works correctly. The mode of “snapshot smiles” is also a treat, but there is no special need for it – the focus of the face is always done correctly, and the smile is a private matter.

Macro shooting is possible from a distance of 3 mm from the object, the camera focuses quickly, and it is rarely wrong in the assessment of distance.

The record of geo-marks (the data is taken from GPS-receiver) will also be useful when afterwards you’ll want to use Google Maps to find where it was shot on the map.
The LED flash is not weak and not powerful, something in between, it cannot be counted on, it just is.
The quality of images is at a decent level, but still far away from ideal.
Below you can see the test photos, and the archive with the photos can be downloaded here.

Music
The MP3-player of this model resembles that of Samsung INNOV8, with the proviso to minor cosmetic changes in the interface.
As in the already mentioned model, the user has a choice of three types of visualization; display of album covers is
supported. 17 audio blanks (EQs), including 3D-sound, are pre-installed, plus you can create your own settings, using eight lanes.
The device plays music well, however, the volume leaves much to be desired, because even with the tested set headphones, the music is not heard in the subway, and the volume is poor in other noisy places.
It is possible not only to play music through the BT-headset, but to broadcast songs on a regular radio through a built-FM-transmitter, only this time will have to disconnect your headphones.
However, you will not hear anything through the external speaker either, because in this mode, it also switches off.
The FM-transmitter has a weak power, and the smart phone actually will have to be put closer to the receiver, otherwise instead of music you will hear only a hiss from the speakers. Therefore, as in the devices of Nokia, the need for such a chip (meaning the transmitter) is reduced to zero.
The radio disappoints with its low sensitivity, because a lot of stations had interferences, which was in a ratio of 14 noises in the 25 found.
In addition to automatic settings, the desired frequency can be entered manually. By the way, the memory of the Samsung is for 50 stations, which is enough even for the over-loaded Moscow broadcasting.
If you liked any song aired on the radio, the song can be saved (recorded) in the memory in the format of MP3. Then, you can listen to it at any time, using the MP3-player.

GPS
Everybody has become little by little accustomed to the fact that many phones have a GPS-navigation. So in the i7110 too there is a built-in receiver and pre-set navigation software Route66 from the company Navteq. The program is well known form Nokia and Samsung devices, and the fact that it requires payment is probably known to many as well.
As an alternative there is the free Google Maps, which, though, consumes a lot of traffic for downloading maps and ranging. The cold start of the receiver was 4 minutes, while the «hot» one took 20-30 seconds; at the exit from a tunnel the satellites were found in some 10-15 seconds. The receiver sensitivity is the same as in the communicator Samsung WiTu, i.e., to speak clearly – it was good. On the open ground you can see 8-10 satellites, and by the window at the 7th floor, in case of a clear horizon – 4-5 satellites.
There is a minus though – when the GPS is on the battery discharges at high speeds, so the navigator of the i7110 can hardly be used as a pedestrian, and for a car, too, the novelty is hardly suitable – the diagonal of the display is small.

Outcome
The functionality of the new model is not very ggod, but quite adequate for a wide range of users, who will need to enhance the ability of the tube later. Of the minuses the absence of a standard audio jack must be mentioned, uncomfortable and not really necessary optical joystick, short time of autonomous work (not only with the GPS) in general, and of course the problematic keys of navigation.
But, as a whole, Samsung i7110 is a good machine and leaves a pleasant impression. It is possible, that one should get used to it at first, then fall in love with it, and in the future – just use it, not paying attention to different things, spoiling life.

Sony Ericsson W902 claims the title of a musical tube and is in the same level with Walkmans. But her photographic abilities will be envied by many modern devices of the camera class. It is disheartening though that the cost of the W902 does not compete with phone prices, but with communicators.

Appearance
The dimensions (110.0 x 49.0 x 11.7 mm) and weight (99.8 g) of Sony Ericsson W902 can be considered as medium – it is better to be carried in a pocket or in a belt case. The design of the innovation is strict, but without minimalism.
Moreover, the black plastic body from all sides has literally distinguished design elements. So, right end differs from the left by applied diamond-shaped notches, smoothly passing on to the right side of the unit. By this the manufacturer wanted to emphasize the key block, managing multimedia functions, located on the right facet. With this solution Sony Ericsson W902 does not look symmetrical, and that is what attracts attention. By the way, the whole idea of unbalanced design is very seductive, but manufacturers rarely gratify it with attention.
The feeling of the high cost is only intensified if you remove partly the metal lid that covers the battery – on the reverse side there is a riffling for roughness, soft inset for contact with the lens and the metal screen that simulates the electrical mass of the body. All these thoughtful little things once again underline the high status of the new item.
The front panel, covered with transparent plastic with a dark polished substrate is, of course, soiled, but it is the disadvantage of many modern tubes. The display of the device is covered with mineral glass; it is not afraid of scratches, and consequently, image eclipse in the future.
In general, Sony Ericsson W902 produces a very pleasant impression reinforced by the fact that the smooth curved lines and the oval surface are successfully combined with the sharp edges of upper ends. The play on the contrast of lines and forms, together with the broken symmetry makes the unit quite attractive.

The unit of Sony Ericsson W902, located below the display, is made in the form of protruding on the front panel keys. The manufacturer wisely decided not to implement any sensory “zests”, totally unsuitable for the harsh Russian winter, or a single keyboard, which creates a lot of problems with random functioning. But the form of government is very unusual. Above the digital block three circles are located, each containing three keys.
Complicated at first glance, the design was very easy to use. There was no false in functioning, and at the same time the buttons are easily pressed with finger pads, rather than nails, as with other models. As a result, we have a bold and original design combined with high functional management (there is even a button, which is responsible for switching between tasks), and perfect work (tactile efficiency of all buttons is ideal).
In addition, the block of multimedia keys should be noted. It is located on the right end, as well as a round button Walkman at the upper end.
They provide not only convenient management of entertainment functions, but also quick access to the MP3-player and camera. All these keys are significantly above the surface of the shell, but at the same time have a relatively tough course, so they cannot be pressed accidentally.
The only button that we would like to see in this musical phone is a slide locking button. The program blocking copes well with its functions, but hardware blocking would be better all the same.

Other Features
The phone connects to a computer via USB-cable from the traditional for the Sony Ericsson brand interface. This connector is also used for charging and for connecting an audio adapter to a standard mini jack of 3,5 mm, to which the set headphones or any others are connected.
It is probably useless to appeal to the developers of the Swedish-Japanese joint venture, for installing a normal 3.5-mm mini jack in their musical models.
A slot for a memory card of M2 format is located under the battery compartment lid. However, in order to install the card itself you do not need to remove the battery, and therefore – and do not have to disconnect the phone.
But to call this method of installing the memory card easy is hardly acceptable. By the way, in the set with the new model a card of 8 GB capacity and a stylish USB-adapter are supplied.
This amount of memory is sufficient to create a music library for a few days, and even some additional space will remain for photos. Those who find it insufficient can buy a 16 GB card, its cost, though, will not be cheap.

Time of autonomous work
If you do not use the MP3-player, but talk on the phone about 20 minutes a day and regularly work with the address book, the device will have to be charged about once every three days. But if this includes exploiting the MP3-player (for three hours a day), then the battery of the W902 will operate for two days. Well, and with continuous music playing the time will be just over 25 hours, which is a fairly high rate.

Display
In addition to the aforementioned the TFT-display of the W902 has large angles of view, high rate of brightness and clarity of the image. But its technical features are standard – 2.2-inch diagonal, with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and support of 260 thousand colors.
However, this cannot be considered a weakness. Photos on the screen of the new model look superb – loss of details is minimal, and the color is as close to the natural as possible.

Connection
In terms of communication a musical top-model has to be omnivorous. The W902 not only works in all the GSM networks (850/900/1800/1900 MHz), but also supports 3G networks. Access to the Internet in the GSM-network is supposed to be via GPRS or EDGE, which is faster. And the connection to other devices is possible due to a built-in Bluetooth-module with support of EDR. No criticism to the quality of communication (we have not tested only the 3G) the phone works even in areas with weak signal. However, one detail was noticed – in such problematic places the indicator signal often behaves inappropriately, descending completely to zero, then suddenly issuing the highest rate. It has no effect on the quality of communication, but nothing like that was observed in other devices.
Another module on board is the FM-radio, which is operated by an original program with a fairly strict interface. The radio is no worse than in any stereo system.
As an antenna traditionally serves the wire of headphones, so without their connection the application does not operate.

Menu
The Russian menu of the W902 – is the acme of perfection, which the developers from Sony Ericsson have reached to date. Beautifully selected colors, stylish animated icons and intuitively comprehensible structure makes the interface of this phone one of the best in its class.
For beginners tips are provided for each section, not intrusive pop-up tips, but produced with hand.
The main menu is a matrix of 3 x 4 icons, but depending on the chosen topic it may be a text menu, and a rotating three-dimensional one, and in a form of a large icon displayed on the screen. Preset themes are available for every taste. The office abilities are presented by a standard set of tools: an extensive address book, alarm clock, calculator, stopwatch, a list of calls, internet browser tool to memorize the codes, etc. The flash of the built-in camera, may also serve as a flashlight. To determine the location, the supplement Google Maps is used. There is even a utility calculating steps.
The pedometer has few configurations, but also helps to maintain your body in tone (unless, of course, you fulfill the everyday norm). And among the three pre-set games with a three-dimensional interface the famous Need for Speed was found.

Camera
As we have said, the main priority of the new item is its musical ability. Nevertheless, the camera of the W902 deserves no less respect. It has a 5 MP resolution, with a possibility to save the image up to 2592 x 1944, an autofocus and flash.
The latter, although it is LED, has an extremely bright light – not xenon, of course, but the user will hardly feel significant difference. The lens is protected by glass, but unfortunately no shutter is provided – before shooting you often have to wipe the lens.
The program of working with the camera has a simple but attractive interface, which will certainly seem familiar to owners of other camera phones by Sony Ericsson. Settings are many: image quality, white balance, enabling / disabling of the flash, the choice of one of the standard scenes of shooting (including a panorama mode), the imposition of special effects, and insertion of a frame on the photo.
The quality of images is decent. Bright vivid colors, rich details and the availability of excellent focus will be an excellent incentive not only for the transfer of shots to the Internet, but also for their print, however, the format is not more than 10 x 15 cm. Still, this is not a photo camera, but a camera phone, though with an 5-MP matrix. The camera loses a little in competition, but in general the quality of images is worthy of deep respect – even in night scenes there is not so much noise, as we used to see. Below you see the test shots, and the archive with full size photos, can be downloaded here.

And on the following pictures you can see how the image stabilizer works. The filming was carried out with a hand in a moving subway car. The first upper frame corresponds to shooting without using a stabilizer, the picture below – with the stabilizer on.

Conclusions
Sony Ericsson W902 is good in everything: the original design, sound ergonomics, high quality images, excellent music capabilities, rich set. And though everything in the new model is of the highest quality, the price does not stand up to competition. Alas, but competitors showed slightly better results at lower cost for example Nokia N79 equipped (with a GPS-navigator, a Wi-Fi-module etc.).

Construction and Design

The new model is slightly bigger than most devices in the market today, but it will fit normally in a shirt pocket – its mass is only 123 grams. On the one hand, the device is executed in the same form-factor single block as the majority of other communicators, and the management of Toshiba Portege G810 is quite traditional.

However, the developers managed to create a quite unusual device in the frames of the usual. The fact is that behind the severity of its forms and traditional materials, Toshiba Portege G810 (soft-touch plastic for the rear wall and a smooth plate cover of front panel) hides some futuristic features manifested exclusively through the various elements of decoration and design. One cannot help to recall the words that the high quality of the product proves itself only if the manufacturer pays attention to the minutiae.

So, minutiae… To begin with, the silver plastic edging of the side faces is made continuous and wide enough to hold all the additional controls, merging with this edging, as well as … the stylus!

Apparently, the designers have given complete freedom to their imagination, because the stylus from Toshiba Portege G810 forms a single entity with the right-side edge.

At a closer look, one can see that the right edging of the shell is a little thicker. Pull it with the thumb to the top, and part of the side facets will jump off of its track and turn into an unusual type of stylus.

The design idea, of course, is for one hundred points, but just to enjoy a stylus, which resembles a golf stick or a toothpick is extremely problematic. First, it is very small, secondly, its operation is severely hampered by the bend at the top, and third, the tip of the pen is so long and fragile that it looks as if it is going to break, whereas in the fourth, to find even something resembling this stylus in case of loss or breakage will be simply impossible. This is how one has to pay for the design.

Both on the right and the left ends the user can detect a swing- key.

If on the left such a key is traditionally responsible for the volume control, the right-button swing has two different functions – the launch of the application to work with the camera and software for voice recording. It looks original and stylish, but uncomfortable to use, because while focusing the camera you will want to either grope a button of the pair or search it visually. In addition, this pair of buttons is located almost exactly opposite the key of the device launch, on the left end. Thus, while switching on the phone or putting the device out of sleep, you often accidentally run either the camera, or the recorder. Instead the power button could be just placed not on the side but on the top, as in most other communicators, and such problems of management would not exist.

The slot for memory cards microSD and interface connector miniUSB are located at the bottom of the right and left sides and the plugs are not covered. But what is worth special mentioning is the main control unit of the communicator. The point is that it is fully touch. It looks just perfect!

The navigation key and the six main buttons have a bright blue backlight, and in off regime buttons are visible only through a blind slot in the black mirror substrate surface. In this regard, the G810 has something in common with the control unit of Motorola RAZR phones – the design is clearly borrowed from the «Shaver».

In general, the quality of materials and assembly of the shell are worthy of praise, and the design is beyond praise. But, alas, as it is often the case – not everything is comfortable, that looks stylish. Designers of Toshiba did an excellent job, of course, but about the comfort in work they seem to have forgotten.

The processor of the new item for is not the most powerful for the present time, yet efficient enough to cope with any application, be it office packages or a serious program for calculations. It is a platform Qualcomm MSM7200 processor with a clock speed of 400 MHz.

The on-board memory is standard: 128 MB RAM and 256 MB ROM. But for the user, unfortunately, little is available, in our case – 100 and 38 MB. The interface Spb Mobile Shell is partly to blame, as it is designed to work with a device without a stylus.

In order to evaluate the performance of the new item in figures, we used the package Spb Benchmark 1.6.

The G810 cannot be called a leader, but the communicator realizes all of its hardware capabilities very well. So for those who are not in pursuit for top models, but want to obtain sufficient power for a reasonable price, the novelty from Toshiba will surely be suitable.

But the playing of uncompressed video is worse off. To test these abilities we have, as always, taken advantage of the benchmark CorePlayer, running on it by turns three videos of different qualitative characteristics: 320 x 240/550 kbit / s, 640 x 480/784 Kbit / s 640 x 480/1320 Kbps. Test results are presented in the table.

Recall that the ideal is the index of 110%, so even the naked eye can see that the unit is unable to play uncompressed video below 320 x 240. If you deviate from the figures, then such a movie looks on the display of the G810 as a slideshow. And if take some time and pre-compress all the films and videos, which you are to see, there will be no problem.

Display

Portege G810 is equipped with a TFT-display with a diagonal of 2.8 inches and QVGA-resolution 320 x 240. Today, this type of matrix is set in budget devices or working horses.

With the unusual appearance of the new model, this screen, to put it mildly, has little in common.

Nevertheless, this «classic of genre» is still capable of much. The indicators of the brightness and clarity of the image, as well as the juicy colors are unlikely to cause any dissatisfaction, even among the most demanding users. As for the angles of the review, here it is possible to find fault with the decrease of brightness, occurring while rotating the display. The only drawback could be that the white color in this case is too cold, with some mixture of light-blue. But this weakness only manifests itself when compared with the displays of other communicators.

Camera

The integrated camera, alas, can not boast of high-quality images.

However, all is relatively well from the outside: 3 MP, autofocus, LED flash, and even a mirror for self-portrait. Moreover, the settings of the camera are sufficient, though they are made in plain text interface – exactly the same, as can be seen in most settings of Windows Mobile.

But when it comes to shooting, there begin the problems. First, the camera is very, very slow. It takes five seconds after pressing the shutter before you can move the camera. Otherwise, the image on the photo will be smeared or will fail altogether. In addition, the display turned out to be slow itself – or rather, the image on the display does not change smoothly when shooting (if you move the camera), but with severe starts. And the quality of the images is on the average level only – the focus often works badly, there is noise on images, even with a lot of good lighting and the colors are slightly shifted to the range of warm pink. Examples of photos can be viewed below.

Communications and Wireless Modules

In addition to a full support in GSM networks, Portege G810 also works in the third-generation networks UMTS (850/1900/200 MHz) and an Internet connection using GPRS / EDGE and HSUPA. Wireless data transfer is done through modules Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR and Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g. For the on / off of any of the modules the firm task manager is responsible, differing from the standard only in stylish appearance.

When testing wireless modules, no problems have been observed. Moreover, the device has demonstrated strong reception even in a place where other phones show either its absence, or do not work properly.

The novelty is connected to a computer with USB 1.1, like the overwhelming majority of communicators from other manufacturers. Therefore, the data transmission rate, alas, is not high. Of the characteristics of connecting it is worth noting the possibility of using the device as an external removable disc or card, for which you need to select an appropriate item in the manager of communications before connecting.

On board of the G810 there is also an FM-radio with a high selective sensitivity and convenient interface. As an antenna the cord from the headphones is traditionally used. So if the headphones are not connected, there will be no music.

Time of autonomous work

Under the cover of the battery compartment is located a fairly high-capacity battery of 1530 mA • h, which inspires hope for long time offline. And we have to say, that hope is fully realized.

With an average daily loading of the phone (20 minutes of conversation a day with an address book and the Internet) the G810 should be charged no earlier than after two days of use. If you save a little, charging will be needed only after three days, which is a very high figure for a communicator. Video viewing «ate» the fully charged battery only after 7.5 hours of use! And uninterrupted autonomous music listening is almost around the clock – 23 hours!

Conclusions

The hero of our today’s review, Toshiba PortegeG810, was not an ideal communicator. Mediocre (or at least very controversial) management, a weak camera and an outdated display – these are the obvious shortcomings of the novelty. But on the other hand, a complete set of communication tools, the availability of GPS-navigation and FM-radio, long time of autonomous work, good performance and an unusual chic appearance outweigh these disadvantages. Well, the final decision is only after the price but it is competitive and low – 13.5 – 14 thousand roubles. If you like the unusual design and are not afraid of the unusual features of the management of this communicator, then at this price a better offer from the «all in one» series will be extremely difficult to find.

Construction and Design
RoverPC G7 looks like a rather massive machine, which can hardly be carried in a shirt pocket. However, such a feeling is entirely due to the impressive thickness of the shell (17 mm), while the other two dimensions (110×60 mm) and the weight of the device (116 g) are small. The black matte body is completely covered with a soft and pleasant to the touch soft-touch plastic. The cut side edges and the smoothed corners give the new model some elegance, but, in general, the G7 is designed without sophistications.

The front surface of RoverPC Pro G7 has a traditional appearance. Much of it is the display laid flush (for the convenience of managing your fingers), with a transparent mirror glass. Above the screen there are LED indicators of operation, the openings of the dynamics for conversations and a video telephony camera.
Buttons of control unit of the new model are few – just below the display there are two standard buttons of acceptation and call cancellation, and the trapezoidal navigation key with a confirmation function. By the way, these solutions are found in the Communicator HTC. They look cool and stylish, but are not very functional, alas.
But additional control buttons in RoverPC Pro G7 are not few.
The jack for headset or headphone is done separately from the interface and the miniUSB port is calculated for a standard connector minijack 2,5 mm. Thus, the users can always connect their headphones to the communicator, through the adapter of course.

At the left end there is a connector TV-Out closed with a rubber plug, intended to connect a cable from the device to the monitor (via the interface D-Sub) or any home video devices, equipped with a composite video input connector RCA.
The pride of the new model can be considered the telescopic stylus, the case of which is located at the lower end. The pen length is 11 cm and the large diameter of its metal body, allows to work a long time, not feeling any discomfort.
Despite the fact that, the manufacturers clearly saved on the development of the design of G7, the quality of construction and materials is very high.

Productivity
RoverPC G7 is the leader in line communicators by Rover Computers that is why its performance is given maximum attention. The Management, as always, is done by the operating system Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro.
The new Marvell PXA310 processor with a clock speed of 624 MHz has been selected as platform. This powerful processor is sufficient for any task, available in modern handheld computers and communicators based on Windows Mobile. In addition, the new platform is good for yet another reason: it has a built-in hardware video accelerator, which must affect in a most positive way on the video playing, videophone, games and, of course, tests the video subsystem. And to save energy, which such a powerful platform consumes with a large appetite, it is equipped with the technology Intel SpeedStep, successfully used in desktop PCs and laptops.
Interestingly, for the operation of a radio module (particularly for 3G) the main processor is not used, but an additional – Qualcomm 6280. Such a decision should lead to greater productivity, coupled with additional energy savings.

But the memory on board is not so much to modern standards: 128 MB RAM and 256 MB ROM of which are respectively available 176.5 MB and 111 MB. True, the user is left with even less: only 171.7 MB and 64.1 MB and the rest are occupied by various system utilities and pre-ON. So, without an additional memory card microSD, alas, nothing can be done; it is good that the device works with high-capacity cards SDHC.
The overall performance of the original by its stuff device, has been evaluated using the package Spb Benchmark 1.6, and for comparison the communicators Toshiba Portege G810 and HTC 3G.
Well, by its productivity G7 definitely takes a leading position among the latest generation of communicators. At first glance, it cannot even be guessed that such a modest exterior may hide a very productive nature.
Another big impression was left after testing video system of the new model, using benchmarks Core Player, in which we alternately ran three videos of different qualitative characteristics: 320×240 / 550 Kbps, 640×480 / 784 Kbps, 640×480 / 1320 Kbps.
If we recall that the ideal is a figure of 110%, it becomes clear that uncompressed video for the new model is not a problem. The device is easy to cope with almost any video.

Display
RoverPC Pro G7 has the usual TFT-display with a diagonal of 2.8 inches, and VGA-resolution of 640×480 pixels. The matrix does not include any special features, however, the image is not to be criticized. Viewing angles are sufficiently large, the range of five levels of brightness adjustment is wide, clarity and color temperature is normal. Watching movies and photos on display is pleasing, but it would be more desirable to see not 65 thousand colors, but 262 thousand.

Camera
Despite all expectations, the autofocus sensor camera with 3 MP, was of very, very good quality. But before turning to the results of surveys, let us have a brief look at its capabilities. Its main drawback, together with the absence of mirror for self-portrait shooting, is the «forgotten» flash, even if LED.

Regards to the management of the camera, it is actually all done in an unusual style. Semi-opaque Russian interface is designed in light blue colors and is suitable for the management with a finger. Standard settings: the quality of shooting, white balance, choice of preset scenes, etc. The camera makes photos with the resolution of up to 2048h1536 points. During the recording, the image on the display changes quickly, without delay, and the time after pressing the shutter button until the appearing of the new frame is also minimum – to miss the shot accidentally is rather difficult.
The quality of images is very decent. The working out of the details and perfect focus pleases the eye. Color transfer in most cases is quite good, but occasionally the device swamps the white balance in blue spectrum. Most often this occurs when shooting in night-lit streets. However, this is fixed by several takes.

Communications
An important feature allowing not to attribute RoverPC Pro G7 to budget class devices is its support of networks of third-generation UMTS (850/1900/2100 MHz) and data transfer on HSDPA. In addition, the novelty, of course, works in networks GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz), and Internet access is provided via GPRS / EDGE. Wireless data transfer between the G7 and other devices is realized by using modules Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR and Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g.
For all communication modules the corporate manager, featuring a pleasant interface and unique virtual buttons-sliders is responsible.
The device keeps perfect communications – no problems while testing were observed. In the city limits the signal is received with sufficient confidence. Connecting to other devices via Bluetooth and the subsequent transfer of data with this interface also caused no reprimands. In the process of testing the new model was connected to Motorola E398 phone and a PDA HP iPAQ 4700. With all this the data transfer was carried out in both directions.

Additional features
Like the vast majority of modern communicators, G7 can boast with the presence of FM-radio. As an antenna, as always, acts the headset cord, but the sound can be output through headphones or through an external speaker. Notably, the switch to sound mode is done by clicking just one button on the main page of the virtual interface of the FM-radio. By the way, the interface is simple, but comfortable. The sensitivity of the FM-receiver is very high – most of the stations were received without interference.
The second important feature of the novelty is an embedded position sensor (G-Sensor), with which only the top models are usually equipped. The sensor is beyond criticism – it instantly recognizes, how you hold the device in your hands – horizontally or vertically, and, accordingly, expands the image on the screen.
And for the work with TV outing there is a special tool, which is responsible for the choice of TV system.

Time of autonomous work
Under the cover of the battery compartment there is a battery of 1500 mAh capacity. This is a pretty big tank, but one must take into account that the device we have in hands is a very productive one, and therefore spends a lot of energy.
With an average daily load of the communicator (20 min. conversation daily, work with address book and the Internet), the gadget works without charging two days. This rate can be considered, although not perfect, but quite acceptable. If you choose to watch a film on G7, the unit will not upset you with a discharged battery during the most interesting part of the film, because battery can last without recharging approximately 4.5 hours.

GPS-navigation
In the line of communicators by Rover Computers, the RoverPC Pro G7 model is a mast-head device, and naturally equipped with a built-in GPS-module. The manufacturer is silent about on how chip the navigation unit is, but the testing revealed commendable possibilities. Thus, the time of «cold» start is about five minutes, and the «hot» start up takes a few seconds. The navigator determines the position fairly and does not lose connection even in the woods (along with a test of efficiency in the city, and such a test was conducted).
It is a pity that the manufacturer has not taken care of a preset small utility, accelerating the «cold» launch GPS via loading of the current situation of the satellites over the Internet. But instead there has been another pleasant surprise prepared for all car enthusiasts, and pedestrians, too. In the set with G7 comes one of the best local navigation packages Auto satellite, with one of the available cards to choose from.
We tested the work of the navigator both with the program Auto satellite, and with a simple non-cartographical application VisualGPSce. Nothing to criticize!

Software
Rover Computers communicators, as a rule, do not have a rich set of preinstalled software, and the G7 in this case is not an exception. And with the tools that come with the innovation, you have already got acquainted, for example, in the review of the communicator RoverPC X7, and therefore to describe them in detail once more is not necessary. It is the utility SmartToday, which provides quick access to all programs and settings of the device, the original recorder, as well as the replacement of the standard interface of Windows Mobile.
The above-mentioned program is a stylish and user-friendly interface (with easy finger management) with large buttons on the main menu, covering a full range of tasks, which a user can perform in a communicator. Here are the work with office applications, and calls, and settings, and notes, and much more.

Conclusions
The declared value of RoverPC Pro G7 was much for a communicator of this brand. In justification of G7 can only be recalled the high-performance, full range of communication tools, GPS-navigator with the package Auto satellite in one set, and position sensors.
Unfortunately, the unit cannot boast with excellent design, and it is often inconvenient to work with the navigation unit. However, these can be attributed only to minor shortcomings.
Well, ultimately, it’s up to you to decide for the purchase, of course. It should only be added that if a powerful processor is not the most important for you, to find other worthy competitors of the novelty is quite simple.
